New electric scooters from China

The Chinese manufacturer Niu has presented two new models, the N-GT and M + electric scooters, which will be available from January 2019.

The first Niu electric scooters appeared on the German market as early as 2017. With the two models Niu N-GT and Niu M +, there are now two further representatives that want to stand out from the previous models in terms of range and speed. Both new models now also have an additional seat for the front passenger. In addition, a SIM card from Vodafone has been integrated into both new models, which should establish a constant connection to a suitable smartphone app from Niu. Thanks to the app, various data and information such as GPS, anti-theft tracking, remote tracking and analysis options can be called up. Both models should be available in Germany from January 2019.

Niu N-GT – electric scooter for longer distances

In addition to use in the city, the new Niu N-GT should also be suitable for longer journeys outside of built-up areas, according to the manufacturer. A 3,000-watt electric motor from Bosch, which should reach a top speed of 70 km / h, should provide enough power. A range of up to 130 kilometers should be possible, which could be sufficient for somewhat longer excursions.

The new Niu N-GT will be available in three color variants.

The two lithium-ion batteries (60V-35Ah) are removable. They should be fully rechargeable in 3.5 hours. The Niu N-GT will cost EUR 4,499 in Germany. Bargain hunters can save around 500 euros in advance sales. Anyone who decides to purchase the new Niu electric scooter in advance pays 3,999 euros. Advance sales are handled via the Indiegogo crowdfunding platform. The regular price afterwards is 4,499 euros.

Niu M + – new model of the M series

As the name suggests, the Niu M + is the successor to the Niu M electric scooter, which is already available. Compared to the previous model, the new model should be able to achieve a greater range. The Chinese manufacturer specifies a possible distance of over 100 kilometers at a top speed of 45 km / h.

Thanks to a pre-sale campaign, the Niu M + can initially be purchased a little cheaper.

A larger battery (48V-42Ah) should make this possible. By way of comparison: the 2017 models only managed just under half. A 1200-watt drive from Bosch is still used for the motor. The Niu M + will cost 2,299 euros in advance sales in Germany. Advance sales will begin at the end of June and will also be processed via Indiegogo. The price then rises to 2,599 euros.
