Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV
The new super sports tire should be able to do everything
Now it’s official: Pirelli is launching the new Diablo Rosso IV. Completely redeveloped, the new one boasts many technical details, some of which have been adopted from racing and position the Rosso IV as a super sport tire.

As with all topics relating to motorcycle tires, it should be said: The skins from today’s premium manufacturers are consistently really good. It is always difficult for the tire bakers themselves to go one better without watering down the old virtues. In the case of the Diablo Rosso III by Pirelli if it is no different, it has been proven in various motorcycle tests to come very close to the egg-laying woolen milk hoop. Has now Pirelli announced the new Diablo Rosso IV and is not stingy with technical content.

New carcass and dimensions
Pirelli offers the new Rosso IV in a total of three front wheel and seven rear wheel dimensions. It is remarkable that Pirelli offers a big-size dimension with 200/60 ZR 17 of the Rosso IV, a previously exclusive size of the Panigale and Streetfighter V4 from Ducati. The basis is still a radial structure with a zero-degree steel belt layer. Pirelli then builds the actual carcass from rayon fibers. Rayon is probably better known to us than artificial silk. These fibers are more stable than normal textile fibers and increase the dimensional stability of the tire when braking or accelerating hard and also reduce the expansion of the tire at very high speeds. These properties allow less of this fiber to be used, which means more room for more rubber on the carcass. This increases the ride comfort of the tire.
Pirelli
At the rear Pirelli works with a five-part tread compound with three different hardnesses. The outermost rubber compound relies on a high proportion of soot.
The same material is also used for the rear tire, but only up to dimension 190/50 ZR 17. The dimensions 190/55, 200/55 and 200/60, each in 17 inches, have an even more stable, three-layer carcass structure made of Lyocell -Fibers. Lyocell is even more resistant to tearing and stretching than rayon and is also made on a cellulose basis. The contours of the new Rosso IV have been redesigned. The tires have a pointed contour towards the center, which should make turning easier. In contrast, the flanks are flatter in order to offer a large support surface in an inclined position. As an example, the Rosso IV in the dimension 200/55 ZR 17 is ten millimeters higher in the middle and nine millimeters wider on the sides compared to the Rosso III.
The dimensions of the new Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV are:
Front tire
110/70 ZR 17 M / C 58W TL (only in the third quarter of 2021)
120/60 ZR 17 M / C (W) TL (only in the third quarter of 2021)
120/70 ZR 17 M / C (58W) TL
Rear tire
150/60 ZR 17 M / C 66W TL (only in the third quarter of 2021)
160/60 ZR 17 M / C (69W) TL
180/55 ZR 17 M / C (73W) TL
190/50 ZR 17 M / C (73W) TL (only in the fourth quarter of 2021)
190/55 ZR 17 M / C (75W) TL
200/55 ZR 17 M / C (78W) TL
200/60 ZR 17 M / C (80W) TL (only in the fourth quarter of 2021)
Pirelli
The front dimensions are 110/70 ZR 17, 120/60 ZR 17 and 120/70 ZR 17.
New rubber compounds
The tread compound on the front and rear tires is also fundamentally new. At the front, Pirelli relies on a complete silica mixture in two different hardnesses, built up with the cap&Base technique. Here the harder mixture in the middle runs under the softer one on the sides, which is supposed to increase the stability in an inclined position. Up to three different compounds are used at the rear, whereby the dimensions up to 190/50 ZR 17 are again structured differently. Up to this size, Pirelli works with a bi-compound mixture for the Rosso IV, similar to the front tire and also with a very high silica content.
Pirelli
Pirelli also offers the new Diobal Rosso IV rear in the big size 200/60 ZR 17.
Pirelli uses three different compounds for the three larger dimensions. A silica mixture is used in the middle of the tread and on the side, while the outermost layer towards the tire shoulder consists of a pure carbon black mixture that is derived directly from the Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SC. The racing mixture on the outside should offer maximum grip on high lean angles. The rear tire also takes advantage of the cap&Base technique.
Conclusion
Pirelli brings the Diablo Rosso IV and it is definitely following in the footsteps of its predecessor. We are curious what to expect. Pirelli positions it very aggressively as a tire for all occasions and does not shy away from offering the exotic dimensions.
