Going out alone with the Gixxer? That is not in the bag for PS subscriber Goran Kolarik. The Suzuki fan sets off almost exclusively with Ms. Moni, preferably through Hersbrucker Switzerland and the Pegnitz Valley. PS accompanied the two.

The marketing managers at Suzuki Germany should now immediately tuck a red carpet under their arm, drive to Moni and Goran’s in Nuremberg and roll it out in front of their hut. Or even better, pack two carpets at once. One for the Kolarik family, the other for their mechanics and ex-Suzuki dealer Rattel, who made them such convinced and enthusiastic fans of the GSX-R.

Once a GSX-R, always a GSX-R
With so much brand loyalty, Moni and Goran are of course very happy that we are rolling our PS-Gixxes out of the van for this home route. Despite the modest weather, we jump on our little Suzuki pack and go off in good spirits. The shortest route out of Nuremberg leads south-east towards Fischbach, from where we set off towards the north-east and the Pegnitz Valley. With every meter the traffic thins out, life on a moped begins to be an easy and joyful one. Despite the wet asphalt, we swerve into the ample curves, let it run smoothly and approach the Pegnitz.
A cappuccino is due at the early first stop in the Rast-Wagon Rupprechtstegen. Goran talks about the motorcycles he has already owned. With the Yamaha XJ 650 and Suzuki Bandit 600, he got into the two-wheeled hobby almost without emotion, but sensibly. Then the first athlete with a Kawa ZX-6R, which was quickly replaced by a GSX-R 750 from the “SRAD” era. Now three Suzuki are parked in the garage. His GSX-R 1000 K7, next to it the 1000-K8 from Moni, plus a 750-GSX-R from 2002. But it is only for the race, converted accordingly and has to serve two men or one man and one woman there. Exactly, because Moni likes to pull the cable herself on the race – despite her daughter Emma, who is only nine months old. This is called a congenial addition. While one romps around in a circle, the other takes care of the little daughter.
Moni’s moped career also started with a naked bike – it all started on a Suzuki 400 Bandit. This was then inherited by a Honda Dominator before she met Goran and his SRAD. The rest of the story should be clear – once GSX-R, always GSX-R. Especially when a white and silver K8 is used as a wedding bike.
Good mood despite rain and mediocre food
Further along the Pegnitz you can see a landscape like in a fairy tale. Steep rock faces shine through from dark mixed forests, exuding the charm of a vacation or even time travel. If only it wasn’t for the weather. It doesn’t matter, we move on, defy the wet, drive through Neuhaus and Konigstein and stop a little later in Breitenstein near Tanja. Moni and Goran already raved about their kitchen over coffee, especially about the cordon bleu. Unfortunately, we can’t test it, because Tanja is sick and so the bar remains closed. As a pub tip, however, it remains mentioned, our house route sponsors are happy to vouch for customer satisfaction.
From Breitenstein the landscape opens up, rolling hills and fields now define the picture. Yet the streets wind through them as if there was competition among the road builders. True to the motto: A curve is the most beautiful connection between two points. The rain has stopped, but unfortunately the streets are not drying up. We stroll leisurely on, stopping for some Franconian sausages with sauerkraut in a typical tourist pint. Accordingly, the food is canceled, but we don’t let the weather or mediocre food spoil our mood. Our conversation ends at
the 750 and the racetrack. Goran mentions that his wife rides a lot better than him and that they only ride motorcycles together because that’s their common thing. Nice to hear and see something like that, because this constellation is truly rare in a relationship.

The light fades quickly on this cloudy day, the evening is approaching. And with him a hungry Emma who screams for mom and dad. We tackle the last few meters, end the tour on the route on which we started it.
When the conditions are better, the Kolariks vary their round. Build a loop here and a lookout point there for Goran’s cigarette break. But basically the length doesn’t matter, they say. The main thing is that they do what they really enjoy doing together: enjoying the streets, the landscape and life on their Suzuki. It is recommended that others emulate it on these wonderful roads.
The Tour
M. Jahn
Hersbrucker Switzerland.
From a geographical point of view, the tour starts in Franconia and extends into the Upper Palatinate. For the motorcyclist it can be sausage, as the region or the administrative district is called, because the whole corner invites you to cycle hard. The traffic around Nuremberg is the same as it is around a large city, but it loses intensity very quickly, so that you can quickly find peace in front of it. Franconia itself is cheap for southern German conditions, so stopping off or spending the night on multi-day tours are affordable.
The route we drive is around 170 kilometers long, can be varied as desired and is definitely worth a trip. When it was wet, we didn’t like the grip directly on the Pegnitz. The road surface in the river valley was slippery in places and should be treated with caution. Whether that is generally the case or whether it was due to the autumn season and the weather? Tips at ps@motorpresse.de.
