2019 MotoGP Argentinian GP report and results (Marquez winner)
Double blow for Marc Marquez at the Argentinian GP 2019: the Honda rider humiliates his rivals with a landslide victory and recovers the controls of the MotoGP championship ahead of Dovizioso, third in Termas de Rio Hondo behind the remarkable Rossi. Summary and rankings.
To say that Marc Marquez’s victory in Argentina is a surprise would be to lie: the reigning champion is still formidable on this fast track where he won his fifth pole on Saturday in six attempts (Termas de Rio Hondo joined the MotoGP calendar in 2014).

In the race, however, his ardor betrays him regularly in South America: he was demoted to 18th place last year following his incredible U-turn on the grid followed by aggressive actions. Not to mention his falls in 2015 and 2017, which offset his victories in 2014 and 2016 !
The Honda official, undoubtedly aware of his relative vulnerability in Argentina, therefore engaged in a solo race: Marquez escaped as soon as the lights went out and widened an abyssal gap. The n ° 93 sometimes stuck up to a second per lap to his pursuers (all main actions and videos on) !
The regularity of his pace is as impressive as his speed: Marc Marquez set the fastest lap in the race in 1’39.426 on his second lap, before stringing together an impressive number of laps in the upper range of 1’39. The Spaniard is the only one to have passed below 1’39.5, then to stay below 1’40 until his 15th lap !
And that’s how it’s done! Win number one of 2019 and the championship lead for. win number three
– Repsol Honda Team (@HRC_MotoGP)
Remarkable performance because it was achieved with a soft rear tire, which did not prevent it from maintaining about ten seconds in advance until the finish. Happy as a pope, Marquez signs his first success of the season (the last one dates back to the Malaysian GP 2018) and recovers first place in the provisional championship with four points ahead of Dovizioso.
Knives drawn fight between Rossi and Dovizioso
Valentino Rossi celebrated this Sunday and the least we can say is that these two decades have not softened it! The Doctor engaged in a lavish battle with Andrea Dovizioso before locking access to second place via an unstoppable interior in the final lap !

The air of nothing, it was since the GP of Germany last summer that the n ° 46 was no longer on the podium, more than half a season to undergo the moods of his Yamaha. His joy was palpable on arrival…
- [Video] MNC Live : Already 23 years of motorcycle Grand Prix for Valentino Rossi !
"I am very happy and also for Yamaha because it has been a long time since I was on the podium", admits the n ° 46. I was hoping to have a better pace than Dovi and to escape, but that was not possible. We had to fight every round: it reminded me of when I was younger! "
The two Italians – leaders of the second group – did not let go of a sole during 25 laps and each played their cards carefully, without questionable maneuver. A great fight in which Jack Miller (4th), Danilo Petrucci (6th) and the unfortunate Franco Morbidelli were temporarily involved…
Double Yamaha elimination and double nice gesture in Argentina
The Italian-Brazilian rider had a good race in Argentina, staying in the Top 5 for a long time on his Yamaha SRT-Petronas before downshifting slightly. Unfortunately, his trajectory crossed that of Maverick Viñales whom he dragged to the mat on the last lap …

We will remember the beautiful sportiness shown by the official Yamaha, who came to shake the hand of a Morbidelli mortified by his blunder in addition to suffering the martyr. Viñales, for his part, inherited a white result when he started from second place: a position that he however quickly lost, before appearing at the end of the second group towards 7th place. Delicate weekend for n ° 12…
Mutual respect as and share the rostrum!

Another nice gesture that many people will probably appreciate: the handshake exchanged between Rossi and Marquez just behind the podium, at the initiative of the nine-time world champion. The gesture is all the stronger as the "Rossi-Marquez fight" had intensified last year on this same circuit, when the Honda official had pushed the n ° 46 to the fault with a manly interior.
At the time, the Doctor had refused the outstretched hand of his rival: this year, he presented him after having challenged him with a pat on the shoulder … But without overflowing enthusiasm either! So much the better for the sport and after all, as Rossi’s mother points out: "They are not here to go on vacation together!".
Quartararo 8th, Zarco 15th 7.7 sec from his KTM teammate
Fabio Quartararo for his part had a solid and error-free event, despite his lack of knowledge of the Argentinian circuit in MotoGP – unlike the first race in Qatar where official tests took place in Losail just before the Grand Prix.
Tenth during most of his second race in the premier class, El Diablo finally recovered 8th position thanks to M1’s double on the mat on the last lap. And here are eight additional points in his bag, he who had experienced a frustrating first race following a stalling on the starting grid in Qatar.
Primeiros pontos alcançados! Muito feliz e orgulhoso com o resultado de hoje – P11. O trabalho árduo recompensa.Focado em Austin já.
First points achieved! I’m very happy and proud with today’s result – P11. Hard work pays off. Focused in Austin already.
– Miguel Oliveira # 88 (@ _moliveira88)
The Frenchman is ahead of Aleix Espargaro whose Aprilia never ceases to surprise favorably: Noale’s coat of arms has probably passed a stage on his RS-GP. Good for the show and for the new Aprilia rider, Andrea Iannone !
The Italian unfortunately does not really benefit from it since he finished 17th and last driver at the finish, behind the KTMs of Zarco and Syarhin! Pol Espargaro, 10th, is once again the first KTM rider with one breath ahead of the impressive newbie Miguel Oliveira, who scores his first points on his KTM Tech3. The gap exceeds 7.5 seconds between Johann and the two KTMs…
The point (s) in the championship
Andrea Doviziso, winner in Qatar, must already cede control of the provisional championship to Marc Marquez who starts this season with a second place and a victory. That is 45 points scored out of 50 possible: not bad, no ?!
"DesmoDovi", 3rd in Argentina, is four lengths behind (41 points) and is ten points behind third, Valentino Rossi (31). Nothing to worry about the n ° 4, who assures that "the target was the podium this weekend, so I’m happy".
Alex Rins, author of a spectacular rise from 16th to 5th place (!), Completes the provisional Top 5 ahead of Danilo Petrucci. That is four manufacturers in the first five places: Honda, Ducati, Yamaha and Suzuki.
Cal Crutchlow, sanctioned by a passage through the pit lane for having "stolen the start", occupies the 6th position in the provisional ahead of his teammate Takaaki Nakagami. The two box neighbors respectively finished the Argentinian event in 13th and 7th places.
Disappointment also for Jorge Lorenzo, never in the game this weekend and anonymous 12th at the finish at 27.497 sec of the leader Honda-Repsol … The Mallorcan explains still suffering from his injuries, especially to the wrist. Although he gained a place compared to Qatar (13th), he is 14th in the provisional: not satisfactory either for him or for his Japanese employer..
The next race, the GP of the Americas, will take place at the Austin Texas circuit on April 14: stay tuned !
