What wheelt around the race track in road tires was actually intended as an enduro for the Erzbergrodeo.

Due to the linguistic differences, the Czech Jiří Heiník ended up with our TunerGP. We were still happy and were able to walk around the ring for at least a little while … well, mostly drifting.

Reason for the early end of our test drive on the Sachsenring: mega loud RP exhaust.

Maybe he’ll find his way to Erzbergroder after all. Otherwise we would also be happy to welcome Jiří Heiník again next year with suitable racing tires.

In any case, the author Jo Bauer took the opportunity and let off steam with the KTM Megamoto.

The Supermoto driving style was not only appropriate for visual reasons, but also essential to avoid falls if the front wheel lost grip again.

Healthy performance: enormous peak power (even if not the promised 180 hp) with fat torque – and that with little fat on the ribs.

The Czech tuner Jiří Heiník built an extraordinary motorcycle for the tuner GP from a KTM 1290 Super Duke R and a 1290 Super Adventure: the Racetool-KTM 1290 Supermoto R..

For the first time we were able to welcome a Czech tuner with his extraordinary creation to TunerGP. Probably it was also something due to the language barrier that Racetool tuner Jiří Heiník from Prague met with his KTM 1290 Supermoto R applied for the Sachsenring. Because he actually created his KTM hybrid to rock the Erzberg Rodeo – on gravel roads and with studded tires. As is well known, the mountains and valleys on the Sachsenring are paved – so it doesn’t make much sense. Unless you want to break the lap times with shortcuts through the deep gravel beds. But, amazingly, they didn’t allow us to do that there.

Adventure + Duke = Supermoto

Converting the 1290 Super Duke R to Enduro and then putting on road tires for the racetrack is a bit schizophrenic – but what the heck?

Everyone pulls out their camera phone

The Racetool-KTM 1290 Supermoto R was constantly surrounded by TunerGP onlookers. Everyone pulled out their camera phone. How much work and technical know-how went into the motorcycle, however, is not immediately apparent – and how much passion. As the driver of this bike in various races, the tuner is correspondingly obsessed with details. Tests, rejects and redevelops. For gravel racetracks, 21-inch Kinec rims were installed in the front and 18-inch in the rear. The only rear tire that can handle the enormous power is the super coarse Mefo sidecar tire “Hard Track”.

More suspension travel is achieved through the entire chassis of the 1290 Super Adventure. Even the swing arm and fork bridge were borrowed from the Big Enduro. However, this required some framework changes. Jiří saw off the steering head without further ado and welded it back on at the right angle. He rewelded the swing arm mount and attached the footrests to a newly calculated position. The built-in footrests have been specially CNC-milled for the Racetool-KTM 1290 Supermoto R..

Thanks to Jiří’s good relationship with KTM and Heinz Kinigadner, it’s not surprising that there are a lot of KTM power parts on the Racetool-1290 Supermoto R. However, always taking into account functionality and, above all, weight optimization. The exhaust, on the other hand, is again a one-off. In his specification sheet, there was not only an increase in performance, he also had to become fall-proof. That was done by our friends from the exhaust forge RP, which made manifolds and mufflers in MotoGP style. A company from Austria programmed the appropriate engine mapping – however, the targeted 180 hp must still be achieved.

Less than 1290 Super Duke R

Now I was really eager to test the bike. And there was our little communication problem again. We wanted 17-inch racetrack tires for the racetrack test. But since the enduro freak Jiří focused on bike balance, he had 19-inch tires at the front and 17-inch tires at the rear. So whatever, tire warmers down and out.

The unbelievable handiness of the bike is hardly surprising. The wide handlebars and narrow tires let the Racetool-KTM 1290 Supermoto R fall into a curve at the slightest thought. The stability within the curve is astonishingly good, even if driving on the side of the tire is like an “egg dance”. If you go to the limit, you quickly lose your front wheel. Not so bad if you ride in the supermoto style and balance the bike with the dragging foot until the front tire builds up grip again. Unfortunately, the rear-mounted Dunlop qualifier is also unsuitable for our location. Therefore you rarely drive super fast, but mostly across. In this context, of course, the enormous acceleration of the Megamoto is counterproductive. Without gasoline 182 kilos and then even shorter than an original Super Duke – hello!

Only strong drifting helps

So it’s clear: If you don’t drive sideways, at least the front wheel will lift after every bend. Nevertheless, all gears are quickly quilted, and on the downhill section the limiter kicks in at 250 km / h. Then, however, the Racetool-KTM 1290 Supermoto R dances unstably when braking into the curve. Only strong drifting helps, which is very easy and a lot of fun. Thus the load remains controllable.

However, you are not allowed to look at the lap times. Because the slimming frenzy also fell victim to a front brake disc and tongs. The single-pane system quickly comes to an end. It was fun anyway. This creation is not for people who love bikes like an Aprilia RSV4 and similar booms and know their razor-sharp feedback. Still, it’s unbelievable how playfully the bike can be moved. We would be very happy to see you again with the right 17-inch racetrack tires and a complete front brake system. The long suspension travel and the modified geometry give you a lot of ground clearance, so you can change lanes very quickly and celebrate extreme lean angles. The quasi free choice of line paired with the murderous start thanks to 132 Newton meters of torque, this could become the Megamoto weapon par excellence. In addition, Jiří Heiník promises interested customers individual conversions with road approval!
