Radars - Twice as many PV for bikers in 2008 -

The government plans to double the number of speeding tickets issued against bikers in 2008: this is what Jean-Jacques Debacq, director of the interministerial automated control project, told our colleagues at LCI..

In its logic of evaluation and profitability of public services – but under the guise of safety -, the government intends to double in 2008 the number of speeding tickets issued against bikers.

"In 2007, we received 14 million infringement messages, 1.2 million of which concerned motorcycles," indicates Jean-Jacques Debacq, director of the interministerial automated control project, to our colleagues at LCI. "Of these 1.2 million flashes, 900,000 were taken from the front, so could not be exploited. And of the remaining 300,000 offenses, where we have the plates, we could only deal with 50,000 fine notices, because we could not read the plates of the other 250,000 ", deplores Mr. Debacq.

Thus, the National Fine Processing Center in Rennes will be equipped this year with new screens "much larger and with higher definition, which will improve the reading of license plates", continues Mr. Debacq whose objective for 2008 is clearly stated: "to double the number of reports prepared for motorcyclists" from 50,000 to 100,000.

Finally, by the end of 2008, the radars will flash for 75% of them in distance (from behind) against only 25% in approach (in front).

In your good 2008 resolutions, do not forget to carefully examine the side aisles and, if necessary, to warn friends arriving opposite that they are about to cross a "particularly accident-prone" area of the French road network !
