Radars - What is the speed retained by the new private radar cars? -

Proud to announce its new private radar cars "without human intervention", the Ministry of the Interior also publishes the technical margins applied to the measurement of speed while traveling, which are doubled compared to those of fixed radars. Explanations.

The first five radar cars, which crisscross the roads of Normandy in the hands of the private operator Mobiom, since yesterday sent their contravention notices to the National Treatment Center of Rennes (CNT).

Ultimately, 26 of these perfectly unmarked vehicles will undoubtedly penalize the slightest shifting overtaking (!) thanks to the radar integrated in their license plate, without even the "offending" driver being warned thanks to an "infrared flash invisible to the naked eye", salivate in advance the authorities.

In the absence of humanizing society, this marvel of technology will make it possible to "free up time for the police to devote it to more qualified tasks such as roadside interception (alcohol and drugs)", while making "respect the speed limits by extending the hours of circulation of these vehicles on the most accident-prone roads", promises the government – which ensured 15 years ago that the automatic radars would not be used to trap anyone, and more recently that they were systematically placed in dangerous areas…

To reject the temptation to "make money", the same government assures us that "the private companies designated for driving radar cars are in no way remunerated according to the number of flashes carried out during the driving time, which is expressly provided for by the contract between the State and its service provider No person employed by this service provider, whether it is the driver of the car or its management, is informed that the car flashes and of the number of flashes ".

Technical margins

It is the Road Safety Delegation (DSR, Ministry of the Interior) which "determines for each service provider a precise and limited number of routes to be carried out each day".

The service provider must then carry out "precisely the number of kilometers which has been fixed for him by the State": if he carries out less, his remuneration will be reduced by as much, but if he carries out more, not only he will not see his remuneration will not increase but he will also have to pay "a heavy penalty", according to article 5.2 of the special administrative clauses of the outsourcing contract…

This technological marvel is not infallible, however, as evidenced by the technical margins greater than those applied to: -10 km / h on the speed measured up to 100 km / h and -10% beyond. In short: if one of these wonderful private-radar-vehicles-for-our-safety surprises you at 101 km / h on a national road limited to 90, it retains 90 and you are therefore not dangerous, drive there. nothing to see. But if on the other hand he measures you at 102, oulah unhappy: 91 km / h withheld and bim, here the change !

For better road safety, Le Journal moto du Net offers the above graphic to affix to your screen or dashboard. Finally, let us specify that if, as planned, the roads change to instead of 90, the private radar cars will flash from … 90! Good road…
