Road rallies - Rallye des Garrigues: Velardi leads the way - The weekend program

Following the retirement of n ° 2, Laurent Filleton (KTM 1290 Superduke KTM Team France / CTM 83) who fell at the start of the race, Ajaccian rider Christophe Velardi (Ducati 1200 Multistrada) won the rally. But it’s jostling behind ! Story.

The weekend program

The course is laid out in several Laverune – Laverune loops, west of Montpellier, for a total of over 450km. Nine specials are planned: six during the day with three passages at that of Aumelas (2.5km), two passages at Murles (2.4km) and a single passage at the end of the day’s course on the Laverune special (1.7km ), identical to that of the previous edition of the Garrigues, located on the outskirts of the city.

Three specials are on the program for the night: One passage in Murles and two in Aumelas.

The weather promises to be good and sunny, but the temperature does not follow, and the rally will take place in the cool during the morning, evening and night of Saturday..

Timetable and procedure

At this 5th edition of the rally of the Garrigues, and as "in principle" on all the following rallies of the championship, as decided by the National Commission of Road Rallies (CNRR), during the congress of the FFM at the end of 2015, the motorbikes are prohibited.

Small bonus here: reconnaissance of the Murles special is totally prohibited to all motorized vehicles (?) During the week preceding the race. This last ban will ultimately only be half respected, the information not being clearly passed on to all the pilots and some simply recognizing the route not being able to avoid going through the special, by car of course. !

Also, in order to allow pilots to benefit from at least one "blank" passage with their motorbike in the specials, the CNRR has recommended to the clubs organizing the championship events to provide a small recognition loop, or "prologue", who takes the stages without these being timed, before launching the real start of the rally.

Process respected at this 5th Garrigues rally. A prologue will precede the rally, some two hours before the real start: a 70km loop that will take the three stages of the route, without a stopwatch. !

Once this final reconnaissance lap is completed, in less than an hour and a half, the real start will take place for 2 large loops of nearly 120km each with a passage on the Murles special, and one on that of Aumelas, in each lap (timed this time!), then a small loop of 47.7km with a third passage through Aumelas and one on the Laverune special at the end of the loop.

The night stage will also consist of different loops: one of 67.5km which will take the Murles and Aumelas specials, then a last small loop of 45.4km with a final passage in Aumelas.
