Second rally 2013: Franck Coudert wins the Sarthe

Road rallies - Second rally 2013: Franck Coudert wins La Sarthe - La Sarthe by night

Despite the capricious weather, the 56th Sarthe rally, the second round of the 2013 championship, was a real success, and mainly for Franck Coudert, astonishing on the handlebars of his Ducati 1200 Multistrada. When the outsider wins! Story.

La Sarthe by night

The night stage is a little shorter than the day one, but measures around 200 km anyway! The route is practically identical to that of the day, the return trip to the Bugatti circuit less, but with two passages in Roeze. At 7:00 p.m. of course, it is still daylight and even if it is no longer raining, this time the road is definitely wet….

Here we are back in Roeze, very wet version this time! And there, it is Mickaël Porcu on Husaberg 570 FS who imposes his law in 1 ‘38.35, more than four tenths in front of Franck Coudert and his Ducati 1200 Multistrada (1′ 38.79). Third fastest time for Benoit Nimis, CMPN rider on Yamaha 450 WRF in 1 ‘39.39.

The side-carists are fond of slippery tracks and the brothers Alain and Olivier Amblard slam a more than honorable time at the controls of their Choda 1100 ZZR sidecar by setting the seventh fastest time of the special (1’42.73).

The "master of time", Julien Toniutti, can no longer really make the horses of his KTM RC8 speak tonight: here he obtains a fifteenth time almost seven seconds behind the Ducati 1200 Multistrada of Franck Coudert … His lead in the lead therefore melted. It’s time to stop managing and put the gas back on !

The connection to Besse sur Braye at night is not very different from that taken during the day. The layout is undoubtedly superb! Very technical and with a resolutely "rally" character, well done ASMACO! Always signposted in this first part, the route takes us to the start of the special.

Franck Coudert is still talking powder on the handlebars of his Multistrada and once again sets the best time: 2 ‘38.51. Mickaël Porcu, driver of the Husaberg 570 FS n ° 15 posted the second time less than a tenth of a second (2 ‘38.60!).

The third fastest time was achieved by a certain Mickaël Augras, "non-championship" driver of UM Ain on KTM 690 SMC in 2 ‘38.90. It’s playing tight tonight! The KTM rider of the internet motorcycle newspaper Julien Toniutti tries to save the furniture on the handlebars of his KTM RC8 and snatches a fifth time in 2 ‘40.82, more than 2 seconds behind a supercharged Franck Coudert !

There is only one short special left and veteran Franck Coudert is leading the 56th rallye de la Sarthe. This 53-year-old ex-hill climb driver, who arrived at the road rally via participation in the Dark Dog Moto Tour in 2009 (11th), has three seconds ahead of Julien Toniutti, defending champion and leader of the French championship of rallies 2013…

We then continue on the tricky link without arrows which is devastating for some, such as Olivier Ulmann and his KTM 990 Superduke which misses a CP and receives a three-minute penalty. Olivier could still claim the final podium. It will be for next time !

So here we are at the last special of the rally: Roeze. Julien Toniutti knows that the victory of the 56th rally of the Sarthe is hidden, more than three seconds in front of him, but the official KTM driver – moreover member of the Site team, did you know that? – is a winner !

The – very very – good Julien will try everything for everything in order to take these three seconds from Franck Coudert … An acrobatic bet but ultimately not that impossible! Having already passed this special twice since this morning, Mister Toniutti was able to spot the most critical parts of the route.

Our French number one then violent his KTM RC8 and gets the best time! Almost 1.7 seconds faster than the best dry day time (1 ‘36.54)! Impressive! Mickaël Porcu and his Husaberg 570 FS follow him at less than a second (1 ‘37.51), followed by Florent Derrien’s KTM 690 SM in 1’ 37.85. Franck Coudert ensures his victory by securing the fourth time in 1 ‘38.09.

Then it’s back to La Suze, in the company of Thierry Canazzi on his KTM 400 EXC (started a minute apart, we drove together throughout the rally, more fun navigation together!) For the finish final of this superb 56th rally of the Sarthe, with the almost perfect organization (as always besides) and with its remarkable layout.

The victory of the night stage will go to the young and talented JMP racing pilot Mickaël Porcu on Husaberg 570 FS.

But at the day / night cumulative, the rally victory goes to the friendly veteran Franck Coudert on his "electronic" Ducati 1200 Multistrada, as is my Yamaha 1200 Super Tenere in fact … a real pleasure in difficult conditions !

Julien Toniutti takes a large lead at the head of the provisional championship of France "Scratch" (31 points on the second, Franck Coudert). Long live the rally and see you for the Corsica event which will be held the last weekend of April (27/28) … Which KTM model will our leader Julien Toniutti ride this time? Surprise, stay connected !
