Sun Rally 2011: hell under the sun !

As expected, the 2011 French road rally championship starts off with some twists and turns: Pierre Mouneu falls heavily and forfeits, the Corsicans make a sensational entry and Maxime Mettra wins the race ! Story.

Strong in twists…

Despite the fall of Julien Toniutti during the reconnaissance (read), the first Sun Rally looks rather good: a radiant sun has followed the disastrous weather of the previous days.

The runners’ park, installed around the castle of Solliès-Pont (83) where the race HQ is located, gives an even more majestic air to this first round of the 2011 French rally championship..

On the program: four loops more or less different from each other, including two at night and two during the day for a total of more than 600 km (two specials per loop). To make matters worse, the stage of the two night loops will be done first on Friday evening !

With the route to be followed in the road book without any signage, on a mostly tortuous, gravely, sometimes earthy, stony and broken road course, the Sun Rally gives a new format of championship event that promises to be selective. A little too much, maybe ?
