Triumph Sprint GT 1050: GT sport must go on
In 2010, the Triumph Sprint ST was supported by a GT version, more geared towards tourism: the lines, engine and suspensions were revised, ABS was fitted as standard and the cases gained in volume … The return of true Sport GT in short ? Test.
The final Sprint ?
At a more reasonable pace, the suspensions of the GT are quite competent. In sixth at 150 km / h, the triple trots meanwhile at a little less than 5,000 rpm: the stride of the GT is therefore longer than the ST, at least in this last report..
And the kilometers go by all the more easily as the pilot does not feel any pain in the buttocks. The 550 km separating Montreux from Triumph France were completed in one go without suffering. Bust placed against the tank – damn bubble! – we would even have taken a nap.
By the way, you might as well warn the nocturnal bikers: "More efficient and new style deflector headlights allowing better distribution of the light beam"announced by Triumph are a little disappointing. The low beams fulfill their role correctly but the range in high beam mode is not enormous.
In the tighter national or departmental bends – of the Jura and the Alps, what a treat! -, the Sprint GT does not give its driver much respite. Maintaining a good pace in these winding parts requires a good physical investment.
God save the GT Sport
Tilting the bike from one angle to the other requires some effort on the handlebars and you quickly come to engage your shoulders or buttocks to make your job easier. The braking on the angle is not the strong point of this GT either: a little reluctant in these moments, the Triumph requires attention.
In short, even more than the ST, the Sprint GT prefers to devour large curves with constant radius – or better, which open! – rather than attacking in the descents of irregular or even tricky passes. A driving style that will fit perfectly with sports Grand Touring enthusiasts … Notice to enthusiasts !
Devoid of any "High Tech" artifice – no traction control, choice of engine mapping, or electronically regulated suspensions -, the Triumph GT 1050 ultimately turns out to be a good road. A little less sporty than the ST, it remains capable of great prowess on small roads provided the pilot puts his own effort into it..
Travel side, the Sprint GT is ready: the suitcases are large and practical to handle, the position not so restrictive and the saddle very comfortable. For those who intend to leave for even longer – or venture into traffic jams every day – a 55-liter top case is offered by Triumph..
Unfortunately, as for the painted mirrors, the bill is steep: 459 € the trunk, 149 € the paint – not dissociable on the "Triumph Configurator" – and 169 € the plate which is placed on the original rack, that is to say a total of 777 €. Fortunately the base price of this large displacement GT is not too high…
Finally, only its lack of protection, rigor on the attack and engine sensations in high revs – thank you for the bridle – could disappoint the big rollers and / or athletes. As for aesthetes, they will ask for a more in-depth facelift for the next model … Especially in the ears !
