New lines and alignment on Euro5 for the 2021 Honda CB1000R
Honda’s maxisportif and "miniretro" maxiroadster is evolving in order to comply with the Euro5 standard … and to relaunch itself in the face of increasingly efficient and sophisticated competition? The new CB1000R 2021 gains momentum, but only statically. Presentation.
Launched in 2018, the CB1000R "Neo Sports Cafe" experiences a first and gentle evolution in 2021 which mainly allows it to obtain the Euro5 mention necessary to continue its career in Europe … unlike the CBR600RR for example, which evolves but does not will not be imported into Europe.
If some customers were hoping – perhaps – for the release of a brand new CB1000R, a "decarenated" version of the recent and very nasty CBR1000RR-Rrrrrr, others will be delighted to learn that Honda has kept the previous 4-cylinder. generation…

"The only changes for 2021 are the optimized PGM-FI parameters, for linear power and improved response, as well as for Euro5 compliance," admits the Tokyo giant, when other motorcycle manufacturers claim to have and worked hard to meet the new standards.
"For Euro5 compliance, the traditional oxygen sensors have been replaced by linear air flow measurement (LAF) sensors positioned in the manifold to allow a much more precise measurement of the burnt gases", adds Honda.
Le Journal moto du net expects the sporty "off-on" character of the CB1000R to be retained since "this engine is tuned to deliver its torque with a characteristic" climb "in the 6 – 8000 rpm range, where it increases significantly ", underline the Japanese. It could be increased even, via the sound of the exhaust "adjusted, to get deeper past the 5500 rpm mark"…
The maximum values (power and torque) are scrupulously copied on the technical sheet (see the bottom of the article), while the average consumption is paradoxically but imperceptibly higher: 5.85 l / 100 km, i.e. 5 cl more than the Euro4 version….
At the same time, the Japanese announced that "the chassis of the CB1000R is unchanged for 2021". It still consists of an invisible single-beam steel frame and aluminum plates on which the aluminum single-sided swingarm is also fixed..
By closely examining the characteristics of the 2020 and 2021 CB1000Rs, Site notes that Honda rounds the steering column caster angle to 25 °, instead of 24.7 ° on the previous technical sheet. The change of the rear buckle is very real: its shape is more slender…
Still 145 hp for 212 kg, but a little more neo…
Looking at the CB1000R, the lines of the entire bike appear more dynamic: more compact and forward-leaning injection covers, reduced radiator scoops, streamlined front headlight … Honda claims that "the plate holder of registration is also smaller ".
Last major aesthetic change: "the new seven-spoke cast aluminum wheels with a complex design" … which evoke from far, far away, spoke rims, right? This type of wheel is popular on the Z900RS … and would be all the rage ?
The CB1000R also receives for 2021 a color TFT screen of 5 inches diagonal – the same size as that of the Fireblade, hey, hey – "which offers four types of displays" which adapt in particular to the four driving modes still offered. (Rain, Standard, Sport or User).
The CB1000R is also modernized via its emergency stop signal function (ESS which automatically turns on the rear indicators in the event of very heavy braking), its Bluetooth connection and voice control for Honda smartphones (HSVC), as well as its USB socket (type C) now fitted as standard under the saddle.
If Honda abandons the "+" equipped and more expensive version of the old CB1000R, it is now unveiling the arrival of a darker 2021 "Black Edition" CB1000R, with exclusive Black paint, equipped with the quick-shifter whose Machined "CB" logo completes the high-end finish.
What will be the prices of the CB1000R 2021 (arrival scheduled for May 2021) and its all-black edition (arrival in March)? As a reminder, the 2020 CB1000R cost 13,549 euros … But this summer, bikers who wanted to buy one benefited from an additional bonus of 2,000 euros on the return of their motorized two-wheelers..
