This information is now known: the price of the CB650R is 7999 €, or 100 euros more than the old CB650F. Its price appears shifted at first glance in comparison with the Z650 (€ 6,799) and the MT-07 (€ 7,099), two equivalent motorcycles in displacement: the Honda 4-cylinder – from the CB650F – 649 cc cube like the twin-cylinder of the Kawasaki, while the twin of the Yamaha displays 689 cc.

So, too expensive, the CB650R? Not so fast! Because Honda tries an interesting big gap with this novelty of classy look, modeled on the, and: if its small size and its displacement evoke an entry-level motorcycle, its equipment and its performance open the doors of the superior category.

Its power of 95 hp ("+ 5%", Honda calculates) places it in competition with motorcycles from 800 to 900 cc, as does its inverted fork, its radial 4-piston calipers, its anti-screen clutch and its adjustable traction control. . Its careful presentation also goes in this direction: its scoops in brushed metal and its color instrumentation are top of the range, far from the "motorcycle school".

Between the small 700 cc and the "big" 800/900 cc !

But if the power of the CB650R outclasses the MT-07 (75 hp) and Z650 (68 hp), it remains far from the highest displacement: 113 hp for the S, 114 hp for the, 115 hp for the and up to 125 hp for the. Its torque of 64 Nm (identical to 2018) may also be a little light … But the Honda costs 1000 euros less than these "big" motorcycles: taxed in a straight line, perhaps, but not in the wallet !

Its most threatening rivals on the price level are European: the Aprilia Shiver 900 and the BMW F800R, for example, which are displayed at 8449 and 8550 euros respectively with their twin close to 100 hp. Same thing for the A2 version of the Triumph Street Triple S and its 660 cc 3-cylinder at 8,700 euros (see the list below).

Remember that this CB650R will be available in a 35 kW (47.5 hp) flanged version for the new A2 motorcycle licenses. A real step forward since the previous CB650F was not, much to the chagrin of many dealers of the winged brand.
