dpa In 2010, there were at the project "Still-Life Ruhr Schnellenweg" thousands of cyclists on the A40 – is now actually Germany’s first "bicycle highway"?

The Ruhr area stifles in the continuous jam, clam municipalities let the road network rot. The alternative for dampled commuters could come to two wheels: between Hamm and Duisburg, Germany’s first "bicycle motorway" is created.

The fastest way through the area "should soon be covered on the bicycle saddle – if it goes after the plans of the Regional Association Ruhr for a new bike motorway through the Ruhrgebiet. Nationwide the route should set standards for mobility on two wheels, says Martin TOnnes, Deputy Regional Director of the Association. At 85 kilometers, the planned cycling path connects the cities between Hamm and Duisburg. He is to lure motorists from the damped streets.
The planning for the cycling route Ruhr is to be concretized in early 2014 in a feasibility study financed by the Federal Ministry of Transport and has been knocked on costs and benefits. The well-developed, as gradient effective way over old railways aims primarily on everyday traffic. In the metropolitan Ruhr area commute daily 1.1 million people between the apartment and workplace – most of them from neighboring town to neighboring town, it says in the RVR concept.
