Scooter - New Tmax: the offensive continues! - Star of the boulevards

Marketed at the end of 2007, the new Yamaha Tmax maxi scooter immediately established itself as the second best-selling over 125 cc in 2008. The least we can say is that it was quickly adopted! Let’s go back to the reasons for this success. Test.

Star of the boulevards

The 2008 Tmax also took the opportunity to change dress. It returns with tighter lines, from its sharp front optics to its skyward-pointing rear shell. The sporting claims are assumed and claimed with its aluminum running boards in the style of a rally car crankset and its long and raised exhaust.

The quality of the assemblies, like the finish of the materials, are remarkable. Only the flashy plastics of the apron do not bode well for a very happy aging. If the general line is more fluid, the machine is still a little more imposing and offers a more enveloping fairing.

After a few months of marketing, we have to admit that the pencil stroke has been successful and that the old model has inexorably taken a turn for the worse. !

The color of our test Tmax, called "stealth" because of its mat gray paint evoking strategic bombers, is particularly elegant with its dark burgundy saddle. We also have the choice between the very wise black and metal gray and a pretty but not very discreet yellow / black.

A little more practical

Even in this new version, the Tmax remains one of the least equipped maxiscooters on the market. Despite a high price, there is no adjustable bubble (electrically or not!), Or 12V socket to charge a GPS or a phone, and not even an on-board computer indicating for example the outside temperature….

These absences will not shock the biker clientele, but may disappoint scooter riders from 125 or 250 cm3…

Two new storage compartments appear on either side of the apron. They are more spacious than the old one, but still do not lock with a key. The saddle now opens from the front, which is much more practical.

The trunk, slightly larger and more square, can accommodate a full face helmet and a few things but still no second helmet.

Finally, do not forget to take one (or rather two!) Anti-theft devices to secure the Tmax to a fixed point, because the machine still arouses so much envy….

By small touches

Small changes are numerous, but not trivial. Thus, the driving position improves by being less scooter-like: the pilot‘s legs are less extended and the handlebars are slightly higher. The floor always offers two or even three positions for the feet, according to the desire or the pace.

The redesigned saddle and passenger handles are very ergonomic. The fairing is more enveloping, the screen higher and the Tmax protects even better than before pilots measuring up to approximately 1.85 m.

Only small flaw: the bubble propels the air directly into the eyes of the pilot, which prevents rolling with the visor fully open. But nothing very serious, and it even becomes an advantage in rainy weather by chasing the drops of the helmet !

Finally, the new double optic advantageously replaces the two small lights of the old model whose lighting was insufficient. At night, we can now venture out of the cities without apprehension !
