Now comes the big deal “, many Intruder fans must have thought when Suzuki served them the new VL 1500 in 1998. 102 cc more displacement (1462 cm³) and four horses more power (68 hp) compared to the iconic, very chopperesque predecessor VS 1400 were certainly not that impressed at the time. Rather the mega-fat 150 mm front tire, hidden under the mighty fender. Or the seat cushions in kingsize format. Perhaps also the extremely long wheelbase of 1700 millimeters. Whatever the attraction of the new one, the 1500 Intruder made heavy cruisers from now on. And in this hotly contested heavyweight class also a good figure, so that the top dogs Harley Fat Boy, Kawasaki VN 1500 Classic and Yamaha Wild Star had to warm up. The Suzuki sold more than 6000 times in its first three years of sales – after that it was enough only for mediocre three-digit sales. The renaming from VL 1500 LC to C 1500 including the changeover from carburettors to injection (in order to comply with the Euro 2 standard) did not give the cruiser, which had meanwhile been technically a bit gray, any major successes from 2005 onwards. In 2007 the last examples of the Intruder, type VL 1500, rolled off the production line. In the following year, the new, significantly more powerful Powercruiser C and M 1800 (125 hp) were introduced, and in 2009 the 80 hp M 1500 completed the upper house of the current Intruder line. In comparison, the almost classic-looking VL models actually look old, but are not too thick in terms of used prices and are therefore still in good demand.

Dealer quote: “Yellow and red with white are bad. VL prospective customers. don’t like the colors of french fries. “It is well known that tastes are different, but no matter how the 1500 is colored, the paintwork has to shine and should absolutely be free of scratches. The same applies to chrome parts. Another quote from dealers: “Buyers want the full hut and it has to light up.” Means: Protection bars, lids and other shiny metal trim parts are in great demand alongside leather bags, additional lights and windscreens. But be careful! In particular, chrome parts made in China or the USA at Ebay dumping prices tend to rust bloom due to poor workmanship and material quality.

However, if the exterior of the machine is flawless, the interested party can concentrate on the few technical problem areas. The motor and cardan drive should be tight, traces of oil indicate inadequate maintenance. And because a faulty rubber suspension of the tank often caused stress (cracks in the tank due to tension), Suzuki called all models back to the workshop from 1998 to 2006. It is better to have a certificate of the implemented measure presented! Otherwise the 1500 Trude is considered very reliable.

Availability of the Intruder on the market: medium high.

The C 1500, which was only offered from 2005, is a rarity and hardly plays a role. The focus of those interested is the VL 1500 LC, which was registered for the first time from 1998 to 2004. For less than 3500 euros, however, there are usually only carelessly cared for copies, and these filthy children are reluctant to be seen in the scene. High mileage is also a minus point, but mileage beyond 50,000 kilometers is okay with top-quality maintenance if it is comfortable travel kilometers – by no means uncommon for heavy cruisers. Many reasonable offers are between 5,000 and 7,000 euros. A good offer would be: from year of manufacture 2002 (double disc brake), second hand and no more than 20,000 kilometers, high-gloss, black color, around 6,000 euros. With prices above 7000 euros, the demand drops significantly. Expensive conversions, even by professionals, can usually only be sold with great losses in value.
