At first it just looked boring, in its second life the sucked-in and somewhat chubby packaging was almost embarrassing. But who the Suzuki GSX 750 F judged only by her appearance, she is hugely wrong – and above all, she misses out on a great bargain. Because the F, which was intended as a touring alternative to the – at least initially – motorized GSX-R 750, can actually do everything better in normal road traffic than its older Supersport sister and always cost significantly less.

The change to the engine based on Bandit 600 made the Suzuki GSX 750 F more reliable from 1998 onwards, the basic virtues remained: a comfortable and at the same time track-stable and precise chassis as well as a comfortable workplace even on long journeys (at least for drivers up to 1.85 meters). And an engine with 80s charm, that is, a more robust run and the classic bottom-little-and-top-everything coordination.
What makes the Suzuki GSX 750 F interesting for today’s used buyers is its excellent price-performance ratio. For very little money there is a lot of suitability for everyday use. And the good feeling that it doesn’t matter if she just stands around for a few weeks with insect corpses on the fairing and chain grease on the rear wheel.

The first edition of the Suzuki GSX 750 F (type GR78A), which was built up to 1997, has to struggle with a few aches and pains at an advanced age: Camshaft damage, defective valve stem seals and increased piston wear are not so rare after a mileage of 40,000 kilometers. The black exhaust manifolds like to rot, and corrosion can also be a problem for the steering head bearing. Slight cold start difficulties and a difficult warm-up phase (keyword choke dosage!) Are almost normal.
The completely sucked Suzuki GSX 750 F (from 1998, type AK or WVAK) is much easier to care for, typical (engine) quirks are actually alien to it. Chafing points on the wiring harness make work easier for the electrical system, and there are also defective steering head bearings from time to time. Even more typical: classic damage to the carburetor, so saponified carburetor innards and outdated tires as well as a maintenance jam because the fairing was avoided.

The term “bestseller” in connection with used Suzuki GSX 750 F is rather out of place. In short: the part usually stands a little longer. In the case of the first generation (GR78A) almost exclusively from private providers, dealers understandably shy away from the liability risk with such older semesters – also and especially because the original GSX is not entirely without potential quirks. The second edition, on the other hand, can be found among traders, mostly as a trade-in for little money. A small inspection, a fresh general inspection and new tires are almost always part of the feel-good program that Suzuki dealers offer with “on-board resources”. Those who realistically add the costs to the supposedly cheaper private offers will often find that the bottom line is that buying them privately is rarely cheaper. Buying tip: Take around 2500 euros in your hand and pick up a well-groomed first or second hand sweetheart from 2002 with a maximum of 20,000 kilometers at the dealer – a problem-free all-year-round all-rounder can hardly be found much cheaper.

1994 Quieter exhaust system, 98 hp at 10,400 rpm, modified handlebars; 13,790 marks (7051 euros).
1996 Changes: 2nd and 3rd gear wheels, ignition control unit, carburetor, air filter, exhaust, piston rings; Compression 10.3 instead of 10.7: 1; 14,190 marks (7,255 euros).
1998 Fundamentally revised model (type AK): engine based on the Bandit 600, larger bore, 36 mm carburetor, four-in-one exhaust made of stainless steel, 92 hp; new frame, slightly changed chassis geometry, wider rims and tires (instead of 3.00 / 3.50 x 17 from 3.00 / 3.50 x 17 now 3.50 / 4.50 x 17 and 120 instead of 110 at the front); completely new fairing with new headlights and cockpit; 12290 marks (6642 euros).
