Automatic speed cameras in 2016: strong growth in France
After the drop – the number of flashes, not the turnover! – recorded in 2015, automatic speed cameras returned to growth in 2016: + 26.3% cracklings, + 20.6% ticket notices, + 18.5% revenue. Yupi.
Automatic radars in France do not know the crisis, cocorico! On the contrary, their activity was booming in 2016: the number of flashes increased by + 26.3% compared to 2015, to reach an impressive total of 25.6 million cracklings..
Carefully controlled, the pictures gave rise to 16 million tickets (+ 20.6%, could do better!): "The transformation of the flash into a ticket notice is increasing, proof of better system efficiency ", welcomes the Ministry of the Interior.
According to him always, "this increase in notices of contraventions is essentially linked to the activity of autonomous radars protecting people working on construction sites (+181), to the increase in two-way radars (+400) and cars- speed cameras (+124) ".
But "it is also explained by the sharp increase (+ 40.5%) in fines sent to owners of vehicles registered abroad flashed on our territory, 12 countries now providing France with the necessary information".
Thus, last year, notices of contravention were sent to Belgian (446,161 items), Spanish (406,669), German (386,287), Dutch (371,316), Italian (287,299), Swiss letter boxes. (254,336), Romanian (175,777), Polish (126,300) and Luxembourgish (103,059!). Overall, a phenomenal increase of + 40.5% vs. 2015….
Radar revenue in 2017: billion, billion !
Already up + 6.6% last year (despite a decrease in flashes!), The profits pocketed by the State reached 920 million euros in 2016, an increase of + 18.5% ‘after the police, + 16.8% according to the Journal moto du net. In both cases, it grows, it grows !
This tidy sum – who will reach, who knows, the billion in 2017? -, is "to be compared to the 3.4 billion euros spent by the State each year by Road Safety, and the 35 billion euros of annual damage for society", takes care to put the ministry into perspective.
As a reminder, these revenues feed a special allocation account "control of traffic and road parking" which will be the subject in October of a "report of the Minister of the Interior to Parliament (which) will detail, for the first time, the precise allocation of these funds, in particular towards the improvement of roads and road safety "to the tune of 665 million euros … but also towards the deleveraging of the State (439 million).
In conclusion, the Ministry of the Interior recalls that "8 driving licenses out of 10 have a balance of points equal to 12". We can thus estimate that road safety is frankly not abusive … or consider that this growth area is phenomenal. !
