"This equipment is intended to blend in with the flow of traffic"

"From Monday October 21, the new generation mobile radars deployed within the police and gendarmerie units will have the capacity to photograph, without visible flash, vehicles passing them, but also those arriving in the opposite direction", boast of road safety.

13 Renault Megane and 7 Peugeot 208 for your safety !

From Monday October 21, 2013, 13 Renault Megane and 7 Peugeot 208 will be equipped with this new on-approach control function in the following departments: Paris (75), Ain (01), Aisne (02), Côtes-d’Armor (22 ), Dordogne (24), Eure-et-Loir (28), Gard (30), Indre-et-Loire (37), Loiret (45), Manche (50), Marne (51), Moselle (57), Seine-Maritime (76, with a double ration!), Seine-et-Marne (77), Seine Saint-Denis (93), Yvelines (78), Hauts-de-Seine (92), Val-d’Oise ( 95) and Vendee (85).

In all, 300 new generation mobile radars will be deployed by 2015. And from the end of 2013, 13 additional Peugeot 208s – "of different colors", specifies Road Safety! -, will be added to the fleet of unmarked vehicles.

Because "the choice was made to diversify the vehicles equipped in order to maintain the dissuasive effect of this equipment which is intended to blend into the flow of traffic for continuous checks and in all weathers". Moreover, to spice up the experience a little, "other models are currently being studied for 2014"…

It is therefore necessary to be extra careful when approaching Renault Megane and Peugeot 208 – a new model integrated into the fleet of unmarked cars – occupied by police or gendarmes who nevertheless remain "in uniform"…

This new arsenal tax security now allows make you spit in the bassinet ensure your safety by photographing yourself (without flash!) from a vehicle in circulation or parked on the side of a lane, whether you are in the same direction as it or in the opposite direction.

At less than 100 km / h, the margin of error retained is 10 km / h and it increases to 10% at more than 100 km / h.

"With this new feature, approved since August 30, 2013 by the National Metrology and Testing Laboratory (LNE), the radar can, in motion, control all vehicles crossed which are on one, two or three lanes, at condition however that no separation (barriers, low wall, median …) exists between the two directions of traffic ", explains Road Safety, specifying that" at the end of 2013, all new generation mobile radars, including the first models put into service since March 4, 2013, will be updated to be able to perform the three types of checks: overtaking, approaching or parked ".

Avoid point removal if the photo is not conclusive

For its part, the Automobile Club des Avocats (ACDA) notes that when the photographic snapshot is taken away (from the rear), "the holder of the registration certificate can simply be content to deny being the author of the ‘offense and only having to pay a fine, without incurring a point withdrawal or any license suspension ".

When the photo is taken in close proximity (from the front), "in view of the quality of the photographs of great mediocrity, it is almost systematically impossible to confuse the driver of the vehicle".

"Better still", continue the lawyers: "the snapshot taken from the front can allow the holder of the gray card to demonstrate that he is not the driver and thus escape even payment of the fine".

Reactions from associations

As usual, the associations for the defense of drivers will mark their disapproval by drafting statements denouncing the excesses of the all-repressive and presenting a different vision of safety on the road, but as usual they will not be included – in their majority – only by the specialized press, and therefore as usual will only be read by those who are – in their majority – already convinced…

It should be noted for example that the association 40 million motorists wonders if "with more than 21 million flashes in 2012, it is still necessary to increase the current repressive system?", Stressing that "the repression pushed to its paroxysm has only one consequence: 750,000 people drive today without insurance and 600,000 without a driving license ".

On this subject, let us remember that disputes relating to the driving license (withdrawal of points, suspension, cancellation …) can no longer be contested on appeal (read), and the circle is perfectly closed: move around there is nothing to do – or rather do not circulate, anyway it’s too late…
