The next generation of electric scooters
In the summer of 2017, BMW presented the Concept Link, a two-wheeled city vehicle of the future. Its evolution will follow in 2020, which will lead to a series model in 2021.
BMW calls the study presented now Definition CE 04, and with the near-series prototype clearly indicates the next generation of electric scooters. The BMW C Evolution, which currently still plays this part in the BMW family, has an output of 35 kW (48 hp) and offers ranges of up to 160 kilometers. The upcoming CE 04, Concept Link.
Design stays close to the study
BMW wants the definition CE 04 to be understood as both means of transport and communication for urban commuters. With an electric drive, futuristic design and comprehensive connectivity solutions, it is set to redefine the scooter segment. With the associated intelligent driver equipment, the BMW CE 04 becomes a holistic mobility experience.
The new definition of the CE 04 prototype differs only a little from the 2017 study. The elongated silhouette remains, which absorbs the energy storage lying in the underbody. The electric motor sits behind it and drives the disk wheel hanging on a single-sided swing arm using a toothed belt.

Above it sits an illuminated storage compartment with a door on the side, which should also hold a helmet. The front light signature is formed by two U-shaped LED lights. At the rear, BMW uses C-shaped LED light strips in the cladding panels.
I am a city-only vehicle
In order to avoid any misunderstandings among customers, BMW clearly limits the mobility requirements of the CE 04 to urban traffic – i.e. short trips. And here variable ergonomics count more than long-distance comfort. The long, flat and visually apparently floating bench should suit drivers of all sizes. However, BMW does not provide any information on the drive or possible ranges.

BMW has casually cut clothing items ready for the driver. Protectors and light guide elements ensure safety, the inside pocket of the jacket has an inductive charging field for smartphones.

Conclusion
When it comes to electromobility, BMW does not dare to leave the urban traffic situation. With the definition CE 04, the Bavarians are showing an electric scooter for the city, which will go into series production in 2021 in a hardly changed form.
