Like the CBR 600 RR, the little Gex is one of the Supersport that will not pass 2016. The mororist in the Supersports category never ceases to freeze the development of these little moths. Whether it’s R6, CBR, ZX-6R or GSX-R, Japan is in no rush to renew these icons, and the majority will not be renewed.. Like many, the Suzuki 600 GSX-R remained on its achievements in 2016, but famous like its sisters and as in 2015 the return of Suzuki in MotoGP. One of the available colors of the small gex is a replica of the GSX-RR entered in Grand Prix.
With this generation, the 600 GSX-R did not plan to shock the world with its design. Especially in profile, where it will take a more than informed eye to distinguish the differences with the old one. Admittedly, the fairing panels are revised, the exhaust has been refined, the rear shell is smaller; but this chapter is closer to relifting than to renewal. Just enough to bring the style closer to that of the GSX-R 1000 version 2009. It is no coincidence: Shigeru Uchiyama, the father of the big Gex design, took the helm to revisit the 600 and 750. We therefore find a slew of similarities, especially at the level of the fork crown pierced by these double forced air channels. Suddenly, with its big superimposed headlights and its singular mouths, the Suzuki sportswoman changes personality, but the style, in my opinion, becomes less sporty – it is closer to a GSX-F than a bloody sports car. This wrapping is one of the most participative elements in the reduction of weight experienced by this new generation of GSX-R: 3.4 kilos less. And that’s just the beginning.
9 kilos … She lost 9 kilos in 2011. It’s huge, especially in this category. The oscillating arm sheds 900 gr, the frame reworked in 1350 hunting, the exhaust line loses weight by 1700 gr. Visually, we can only see little change. The only items that catch the eye are the brake calipers. These are no longer the traditional Tokico but Brembo. The little Gex is fitted with one-piece jaws; a first for a sports car of this displacement (normally, this type of technology is reserved for prestigious hypersports). In addition to improving the bite of the braking (but who can only know the best with braided hoses), these clamps also allow a gain in weight: 405 gr. The rear caliper, meanwhile Japanese, also loses mass: – 325 gr for the Nissin.
Working on the engine offers little additional power. The 4-cylinder has only really been optimized for its revving. The pistons are stronger and lighter by 78 grams, the camshafts are meaner, the valves are imperceptibly lighter. In terms of raw figures, it is 1 horse won, bringing the stable to 126 cannons.
The gearbox benefits from a new staging: first longer and the next 5 tightened gears.
The 600 GSX-R adopts adjustable footrest plates in 3 positions, elongated rear indicators, a redesign of the front fender, a revised swing arm with the right side banana type. The fork is now a BPF large piston model (lighter at 860 gr and more efficient), the S-DMS (several maps, now reduced to 2 selections) is still in the game, and the dashboard changes radically to highly take inspiration from that of the 1000. Geometry side, the wheelbase is reduced by 25 mm and the total length of the motorcycle by 10 mm. All of the components of the rear suspension are thinner by 780 gr. We also gain 550 gr on the rims and 150 gr on the crown.
All of its developments do not radically change the philosophy of the little Gex, it still presenting itself as one of the least radical sports and therefore the most appreciable on the road. With the technical improvements identified, agility and an increase in efficiency are clearly on the horizon. However, even with all that, hard for her to compete on the circuit with pure pistardes. But in the field of civilian use, the 600 GSX-R is certainly one of the most suitable choices.
