The Pullman scooter

After several years, the
Burgman 650 is still one of the biggest maxi-scooters, at the
both in displacement and power with its 55 horsepower. With the Executive,
Suzuki has finalized the concept of the big urban scooter to equip it with all
luxury accessories: ABS, electric windshield, mirrors
electric, passenger backrest… gadgets or true more deserving
to justify the almost 2,000 euros extra for this model
compared to the standard version? One week trial and 1300
km…

Discovery

Suzuki Burgman 650 Executive

The Burgman 650 wins straight away, both in length and in
width, especially because of its huge mirrors
sides, as imposing as those of a car. They are from elsewhere
at the same height as those of a car and can be adjusted
in the same way (not electrically however).
On the other hand, with a pressure of the left index finger, they fold up automatically..
Suddenly, the width is in the same template as the scooters of
the competition.

The left stalk multiplies the buttons … used to select
automatic gearbox, power mode or manual mode with gear change
left thumb. Power mode requires a slight overspeed
in automatic mode and thus offers a booster effect on the first
reports. The mode as well as the gear engaged are well displayed
prominently on the dashboard. And everything is chosen, y
included when driving.

Suzuki Burgman 650 Executive

To the left and to the right of the handlebars are two gearboxes.
side gloves and below a central box making all
width (and can be locked). To note
the cigarette lighter socket and the 12v supplied in the central box.

The trunk is opened using the ignition key on the switchboard
on board. Note the possibility of obstructing the location of the
ignition key, using the back of the key. With the system
SAIS Suzuki anti-theft device, this increases the difficulty of forcing
the lock.

In the saddle

The saddle is immediately comfortable. She is
original a little far from the original, but it is possible to adjust it
easily 5cm forward.

The dashboard displays digital numbers, overhung by
a baton tachometer and a red zone at 8,500 laps.
Everything is there: fuel gauge, clock, partial double-trip, indicator
parking brake, oil, high beam, indicators, warning.

Suzuki Burgman 650 Executive

Despite a saddle height identical to the SilverWing, the feet
just touch the ground for the 1.70m pilot and need to move forward
on the saddle. The saddle is indeed quite wide here. The Burgman does not remain
no less easy to handle when stationary, even when
toes for reversing.

Contact

The twin purrs, without vibrations. Right handle and that
go. From the very first all wheel, the Burgman is royal of stability.

In the city

As much his weight of 270 kilos all full facts is well felt at
stopping, this overweight disappears quickly from the first
wheel turns. The 638cc twin offers frank thrust
at the slightest solicitation of gases, in standard so-called "economic" mode.
In Power mode, we appreciate a new scooter, sporty, dynamic.
Higher in revs of 1000-1500 revolutions (gears change to
7,000 rpm instead of 5,000 rpm), this slight overspeed
offers popular everyday play possibilities.

There is still the possibility of switching to fully manual mode
and change the gears from the thumb to the left handlebars, to go up further
higher in the laps on first gear. Driving and
accelerations / recoveries then compete with those of a
motorbike. Despite this manual mode, the gearbox automatically lowers the
reports in case of demotion, prohibiting any sub-diet,
and also avoiding juggling speeds in all directions.
On the other hand, when upshifting, it is possible to play with
the breaker. It is also possible to downshift manually,
and thus benefit from a real engine brake…
exceptional on a scooter.

But after a few hours or even days of this little game, and with
the induced overconsumption, we quite readily forget this manual mode
to switch more between normal mode and power mode.

Despite all the buttons, everything falls easily under the fingers,
and you quickly master the different pushers, without
take your eyes off the road.

Maneuverability is at the rendezvous in town. And if the gap
not induce the large mirrors make you have a few cold sweats
during interlocking, a simple pressure of the index makes the mirrors fold up
in two seconds. What may appear to be a gadget becomes
essential in Paris and the Paris region in traffic jams.
There, where with the standard Burgman, I remained "wise"
hesitating to perform certain maneuvers, now becomes
possible, with an identical lateral overweight now
to that of a 125. In short, we sneak around without apprehension.

Highway

The Burgman rushes more than valiantly on the highway, and climbs
regularly in towers up to 180 km / h (on
German autobahn), then can still nibble 5 and 7 km / h well launched.
At this speed, the maxi-scooter remains perfectly stable if not
a slight shimmy if the bubble is in position
high. But even that slight shimmy of the handlebars at this
speed prohibited in France – and which disappears with the bubble in position
low – does not induce any disturbing behavior at the
handling. On the contrary, the Burgman passes over the deformations
of the roadway and alternates large curves without wiggling, even
in case of strong side wind. In short, the behavior remains unperturbed.

On the road

Back on the departmental road, the Burgman quickly found its
brands and allows you to alternate a flexible or sportier ride depending on
of mood. Whatever the quality of the road, the
behavior and comfort are exemplary, without any surprises. the
braking is up to the task and allows you to recover
without worrying about a little quick corner entry.

Braking

The braking is up to the performance of the scooter while
while remaining progressive. Getting up offers a good feeling and all the power
necessary.

Comfort

Whether in the saddle or suspensions, the Burgman is very
comfortable, both solo and duet. The suspensions are adjusted
in addition very easily, without tools, but with the simple force
of the wrist. Originally set to 2, they deserve
to be set to 3, for a little more firmness
and excellent road holding. But even on 3, the road is
billiards, especially since the Burgman is totally insensitive to
differences in coatings even degraded.
Suddenly, it allows sporty driving in complete safety,
without compromising on course stability or comfort.

Side grab handles provide a good grip
for the passenger, who already helped by the backrest does not
doesn’t even need.

The feet have all the necessary space and even
different positions possible given the size of the steps.

Suzuki Burgman 650 Executive

Convenient

The illuminated trunk allows two full-face helmets to be taken in
and a host of additional objects such as a rain suit,
gloves, small bag … Note that the lighting can be deactivated
in the same way as in a car by a switch
placed on the light … thus avoiding any risk
unexpected battery discharge.

The 56 liter capacity is also sufficient for
go on a long weekend with enough stuff. The storage compartments
located at the front make it possible to complete the whole.

Be careful when filling the tank. This is done
indeed like a car, with a side hatch. Hatch
which quickly gets ripped off if you don’t pay attention,
in fact only holding via a plastic support. The piece in
question of disassembly very easily and is not expensive,
but the error happens quickly.

The center stand complements effectively
the side stand.

The handbrake – like on a car – located on the
right of the scooter, makes it possible to stop even on a slope
scooter.

Consumption

Since its initial version, the Burgman has improved a lot
its autonomy, now flirting with the 300 kilometers
and placing it among the most autonomous scooters, despite
its only 15 liters of tank. However, be careful with
fill the tank well on the center stand, because
the difference in filling is close to a liter of difference
(and therefore 20 km of additional distance). The stopper being
effectively lateral, the tilted position of the scooter does not
not allow to optimize the filling.

Only its fuel gauge is a bit hazardous. If the first
of the six sticks goes out between 50 and 60 km, the 2nd between 110
and 130, the 3rd between 160-180, the 4th between 200-210, then there is still
30 km before the reserve engages.

With a consumption varying between 5.1 liters and 6.5 liters, the autonomy
du Burgman varies between 230 and 290 km. Its minimum consumption is obtained
at legal and stabilized speed on the motorway (and
bubble in low position). On the other hand, as soon as the pace picks up,
consumption then rises to 6.5 liters for autonomy
reduced to 230 km.

Conclusion

If the reason for the presence of ABS on the executive version
does not arise, the electric mirrors and the bubble
electric do not ultimately arise either. These are real
more everyday, and beyond the gadget, day-to-day comfort. And
within 200 euros, you don’t even have to hesitate anymore
with the heated "Z" version which will finish classifying the Burgman
in the Grand Luxe category of maxi-scooters. With its disengageable box
and manual, and a rigid frame, the Burgman almost falls out of the category
maxi-scooter for that of the motorcycle. The Burgman is a bit the best
of the two worlds between the touring version of the SilverWing and the Sport version
TMax … but also pays the price. Because at 9,899 euros, the Burgman
650 Executive is the most expensive of the maxi-scooters, not to mention the version
"Z" with heated saddle and grips
for 10,099 euros; suddenly, we are eyeing the standard Burgman version
at only 7,999 euros.
