No Euro 5 for the super sports car

Suzuki does not plan to homologate the popular super sports car for the Euro 5 standard. From the end of 2020, there will be no more new vehicles in Europe.

As reported by French media, Suzuki wants the GDo not make the SX-R 1000 fit for the Euro 5 standard. This means that no new vehicles can be sold by the super sports car from the end of 2020. The French refer to this information on a conversation with the sales manager of Suzuki France, Guillaume Vuillardot.

Comeback possibly in 2023

The sales figures of the super sports car in Europe are simply too low for the financial outlay for a Euro 5 homologation to be worthwhile. For the 2020 model year, the GSX-R 1000 remains unchanged in the model range. Since the Euro 5 standard will be binding for all newly registered motorcycles from January 1, 2021, Suzuki offers its dealers the opportunity to register machines in 2020 and then sell them as daily registrations in 2021. For Vuillardot, it is conceivable that the GSX-R 1000 will then be adapted for the Euro 5b standard that will come into force in 2023 and thus celebrate a European comeback.

Since the machine will not be taken out of production in Japan, it should be possible to supply racing and SP versions to all teams that operate with the GSX-R 1000 Motorsport in the coming years.
