Suzuki SV 650 N 2002

Many young drivers wonder what a motorcycle in a bridled version gives, if it is not too calf, if they will not regret the good old days when they were scared on the handlebars of their 51, then to answer their question. question here is the test of one of them and not the least: Madame Suzette more commonly called SV 650.

But let’s start with the part that does not mutate following castration: the cycle part.

First, let’s take a quick tour of the beast at a standstill:
she has a good face both plump and fine which has participated in its great spread in the biker world.

Lifting the passenger seat reveals a handy little box that contains the very complete Suzuki tool kit. You can also accommodate a small bottle of water (or oil if you are accompanying a triumph … or any other object of the same size, don’t you ladies!). A disk unit can also take place, as well as rain pants or even a U-shaped lock but small in size.

Speaking of saddle: let’s sit there! First of all on board what surprises most is the featherweight and finesse of the miss…. long live V2! The low saddle height will suit the greatest number, including small bikers but not too small either. On the other hand, the long legs will feel cramped.

Comfort level that’s fair…. as long as you don’t drive more than 200 km. For the duo, Suzette is not jealous, she knows she is the best! It readily accepts a passenger: well padded and pleasant saddle (at least as much as for the pilot), grip handle that is easy to grip and which allows you to have a good upright position. The only problem is too much space between the pilot and the passenger which gets all the bells and whistles at high speed..

Now let’s take the handlebars: the position remains almost straight and comfortable. The brake lever is adjustable in spacing, so that it can be touched by large lumberjack paws as well as caressed by gentle princess mimines.
Instrumentation level there is a classic counter / tachometer block with an electronic odometer and a partial, useful to know where we are in relation to the autonomy because there is no fuel gauge but only a reserve witness.

Have a good time blabbing! We mess up, start: bbbrrrrvvvv, first and let’s go.
First turns of the wheel: wwaaahh it turns by itself! It’s very light! We do what we want with it. U-turns and maneuvers in town are easy. Then first braking: swell the front fork seems very soft; but for the moment it is rather a good point because the small bumps and other defects of the road are well absorbed…. this good point could quickly turn into bad later on…. but back to our ponies.

We leave the city for a walk on the small entwined roads of the Vosges. The suspensions are comfortable and smooth out the irregularities of the road. The pins and pif paf are a real treat on the handlebars of the SV: it swings on its own and goes where you want. On the other hand, as soon as the pace picks up, it’s a whole different story: as long as the turns are made of perfect asphalt there are not too many problems, but as soon as there is the slightest irregularity: hole , bump, uneven, the front fork starts to pump, the direction becomes blurry and it tackles at all costs … however this remains completely controllable and without real danger .. for the most arduous sportsmen, an oil change and springs should greatly improve all this.

The brakes: what are they? We would almost come to ask the question by winding quietly with the twin of this little Japanese girl. Its very present torque allows the slightest release of the handle to decelerate very frankly to such an extent that for a leisurely ride we use the brakes only to stop. Nevertheless as soon as we take out the attack, they serve and well! Powerful just right, they are up to the task. The low weight of the miss also greatly facilitates the work.
Note a small defect in the gearbox which sometimes makes some caprices between the 1st and the 2nd but nothing too bad.

Balance sheet:

Castration simply removes the fun side that has made the reputation and wide distribution of SV but has not made it a machine devoid of charms: we take pleasure in riding it even fiercely and it allows you to learn with a machine that forgives easily but where you still have to dose…. An excellent bike to start with 34hp and why not even settle for 70 hp draft afterwards..
It’s not for nothing that you come across SVs on every street corner … its biggest flaw ?!
