8/18
Minus: The Lucero is also available in black, but the light brown version looks ugly after switching it a few times.

9/18
Plus: another leather cover. In the case of the cattleman, it covers and secures the zipper. Fits well. And makes sense.

13/18
Minus: gearshift protection sewn onto a sneaker, is the motorcycle shoe finished? Oh well. In addition, processed listlessly. Weak.

14/18
Rev’it Rodeo, MOTORRAD verdict: good.
Thorsten Dentges
15/18
Plus: the upper leather and sole are nicely trimmed to look old. Torsional rigidity, scraping and abrasion protection meanwhile: up to date!

16/18
Sidi Insider, MOTORRAD verdict: good.
Thorsten Dentges
17/18
Minus: generous amounts of textile in the lintel area instead of more abrasion-resistant (artificial) leather. It’s fashionable, but also functional?

City slippers in comparison
Casual with the motorcycle to stroll through town. But what kind of shoes? Sneakers or vintage boots – which concept works best with motorcycle city boots? 11 shoes in comparison.

“Only real motorcycle boots belong on the driver’s feet, period. Everything else is far too dangerous!” Yes, that’s right. But now back to everyday motorcycle life: Not everyone puts on exemplary motorcycle boots for a short trip into the city or the neighboring village. Many reach for light sneakers or comfortable and worn out lace-up boots.

BMW Ride (MOTORRAD test winner)
Provider: BMW Motorrad, Tel. 0 89/1 25 01 62 00, www.bmw-motorrad.de; Price: 175 euros; Color: beige with dark gray; Sizes: 35 to 48; Upper material: cow leather (suede and suede); Weight (pair): 1324 g (for size 43); Shaft height: 20.0 cm (for size 43); Country of manufacture: Romania
plus: Foot very stably embedded, sole with exemplary torsional stiffness, proper reinforcements and protectors, certified boots; first-class ventilation when driving, great climate when walking; roll off very well, top walking comfort and high suitability for everyday use; very balanced fit, shoe fits pressure and chafe free, good adjustment by lacing system; easy handling by means of a side zip; good feeling on rest; many sizes
minus: Heavy weight for sneakers; Toe box only moderately reinforced; not very rainproof due to perforation even with small showers
Conclusion: A fairly safe motorcycle (short) boot that is certified according to the standard, and at the same time a comfortable trainer. The BMW Ride manages this difficult balancing act. The shoe is neat on short tours and great in everyday life.
MOTORRAD verdict: very good
BMW Urban
mps photo studio
BMW Urban
Provider: BMW Motorrad, Tel. 0 89/1 25 01 62 00, www.bmw-motorrad.de; Price: 220 euros; Color: Black; Sizes: 41 to 48 (men), 37 to 40 (women); Upper material: cow leather; Weight (pair): 1480 g (for size 43); Shaft height: 26.0 cm; Country of manufacture: Romania
plus: Robust, very high-quality, water-repellent leather, great workmanship; comfortable fit, astonishingly high walking comfort thanks to the flexible sole; Shin guards, reinforcements, protectors, certified boots, good anti-slip protection; very easy to use; good weather protection in cold and rain; nice direct feeling for levers when driving
minus: At temperatures above 20 ° C, the heat builds up in the shoe when walking and in the office, too heavy on the foot for long walks; Shaft reaches high and rubs on the shin without long socks; Torsional stiffness of the sole is sufficient, but could be better
Conclusion: Looks like a motorcycle boot and is certified as such. The only thing that makes the BMW Urban a city shoe is its comfortably rolling sole and its timelessly elegant exterior. Great quality, but also expensive.
MOTORRAD verdict: good
Dainese Street Rocker D-WP
mps photo studio
Dainese Street Rocker D-WP
Provider: Dainese, Tel. 0 89/35 39 67 66, www.dainese.com; Price: 169.95 euros; Color: Dark Brown; Sizes: 39 to 46; Upper material: cow leather (brushed); Weight: 1176 g (for size 43); Shaft height: 17.5 cm (for size 43); Country of manufacture: Romania
plus: Motorbike shoe certified according to the standard; Climate membrane and good, supple leather ensure proper weather protection; cleanly processed, equipment good; very torsion-resistant sole, ankle protectors
minus: Extremely difficult entry, only put on with great emphasis or a shoehorn; Inharmonious fit, sufficiently long depending on the size of the tester, but much too narrow, unsuitable for normal and slightly wider foot shapes because of excessive pressure points in the forefoot area; Toe box not reinforced; Indoor climate rather sweaty from 20 ° C, low breathability; oily leather equipment rubs off
Conclusion: In itself a good and relatively safe motorcycle sneaker with good features and a chic design. When it came to the fit, the shoemakers of the Dainese Street Rockers, however, is phenomenally wrong. It pinches and pinches badly.
MOTORRAD verdict: satisfactory
Difi vintage

Difi vintage
Provider: Motoport, Tel. 0 44 56/89 95 71 00, www.motoport.de; Price: 159.95 euros; Color: Black; Sizes: 40 to 46; Upper material: cow leather; Weight (pair): 1536 g (for size 43); Shaft height: 18.5 cm (for size 43); Country of manufacture: China
plus: Absolutely easy entry and exit thanks to the side zip, comfortable handling; plenty of space for wide forefeet, great rolling behavior when walking, nice and soft cushioned, weight is not noticeable; when driving Sole with a lot of grip on the notch, well positioned gearshift protection; Well padded, proper ankle protection on the outside, robust, strong leather with high abrasion protection, heel well reinforced
minus: Somewhat spongy, indifferent feeling when switching; sweaty climate in the shoe quickly when walking long distances and when the air is in the office; high weight; Sole not particularly rigid; Processing partly only moderate
Conclusion: The Difi Vintage makes old-school hiking boots. Shift protection, shoelace strap and coarse-grain leather make it look more like a cheap work shoe
works. It doesn’t matter: super comfortable and safe.
MOTORRAD verdict: good
Germot Fashion Vintage
mps photo studio
Germot Fashion Vintage
Provider: Germot, Tel. 0 61 03/45 91 00, www.germot.de; Price: 99.90 euros; Color: Black; Sizes: 37 to 47; Upper material: cow leather; Weight (pair): 1002 g (for size 43); Shaft height: 17.0 cm (for size 43); Country of manufacture: Pakistan
plus: Easy entry, successful fit, proportions fit well, low weight, high wearing comfort even on long walks; Ankle protectors fit very nicely on the inside, decent leather thickness, reinforced toe box; good size range; Membrane as rain protection, air-conditioned passable up to 20 ° C
minus: Sole very soft, comparable to conventional sneakers, not very stiff in the ankle area; Much too long laces without extra security, can easily hang onto motorcycle parts; very sweaty in summer heat; when wet, the sole is a bit slippery on notches and levers
Conclusion: Light, quick to put on, fashionable, also equipped with a climate membrane. The whole thing at a bargain price. Good? No. As a motorcycle shoe is the Germot Fashion vintage too slack. More like a weatherproof sneaker.
MOTORRAD verdict: satisfactory
Hero Lucero
mps photo studio
Hero Lucero
Provider: Held, Tel. 0 83 21/6 64 60, www.held.de; Price: 129.95 euros; Color: Brown, Black; Sizes: 37 to 47; Upper material: cow leather (suede); Weight: 1256 g (for size 43); Shaft height: 17.5 cm (for size 43); Country of manufacture: Pakistan
plus: Ventilation thanks to generous leather perforations excellent when driving, noticeable airflow and great air conditioning, pleasant on very hot days; good size range; comfortable footbed; wide cover strip for well-securing shoelaces; torsionally stiff sole
minus: Very spongy in the metatarsal area, gives little hold and firmness, indirect feeling when transferring to the stops in curves; no protectors, barely reinforced toe box, poor anti-slip protection; cut too wide, bulges press and chafe on longer runs; in the light brown color variant leather very susceptible to dirt; Hardly any moisture protection when it rains
Conclusion: Neither sneaker feeling nor real boots – the hero Lucero looks unbalanced and is too uncomfortable to wear when walking and hardly any feedback when driving. Suitable as city boots, but not a revelation.
MOTORRAD verdict: satisfactory
Hero Cattleman
mps photo studio
Hero Cattleman
Provider: Held, Tel. 0 83 21/85 03 22, www.held.de; Price: 149.95 euros; Color: brown; Sizes: 37 to 47; Upper material: cow leather; Weight: 1416 g (for size 43); Shaft height: 20.5 cm (for size 43); Country of manufacture: Pakistan
plus: Robust, but still supple leather, exemplary abrasion-resistant, suitable lacing system fixes boots easily adjustable on the foot; good size range, easy entry through side zip; Sole with a non-slip profile, good for walking away from paved paths, comfortable lining; good weather protection
minus: Sweaty indoor climate at temperatures above 20 ° C, walking comfort restricted on longer journeys, shoes squeeze and rub; Fit almost too wide for normal feet, spongy driving feeling when transferring to rest and when shifting and braking, poor heel hold; Weight quite high
Conclusion: When it comes to motorcycling, the solid but not exactly inexpensive hero Cattleman cuts a fine figure. Only on foot does the heavy Botten reveal some comfort weaknesses that are annoying in everyday life. A little too one-sided.
MOTORRAD verdict: satisfactory
Modeka Ramble
mps photo studio
Modeka Ramble
Providers: Modeka International, Tel. 0 25 21/3 94 20, www.modeka.de; Price: 94.90 euros; Color: Dark Gray; Sizes: 37 to 47; Upper material: cow leather; Weight: 1002 g (for size 43); Shaft height: 15.5 cm (for size 43); Country of manufacture: Pakistan
plus: Good grip on notches and a direct feel for levers; very low weight, great comfort when driving; good size range; reinforced toe area; Additional laces
minus: Leather thin and poor quality, careless workmanship, carelessly attached gearshift protection; Shoelaces too long, easily caught in vehicle parts, no special protection available; very unstable, not very rigid construction, too soft and thin sole; synthetic, sweaty lining, bad indoor climate already below 20 ° C, hardly any heat output; Seams press, forefoot area is narrow, poor walking comfort
Conclusion: The Modeka Ramble is more of a leisure sneaker with an alibi motorcycle function. Low security and poor weather protection paired with low wearing comfort in everyday life – cheap, but city bikers will not be happy.
MOTORRAD judgment: sufficient
Rev’it Rodeo
mps photo studio
Rev’it Rodeo
Provider: Rev’it, Tel. 00 31/4 12/69 67 40 (NL), www.revit.eu; Price: 189.99 euros; Color: Brown, Black; Sizes: 40 to 46; Upper material: cow leather; Weight (pair): 1314 g (for size 43); Shaft height: 22.5 cm (for size 43); Country of manufacture: Portugal
plus: Great leather feel and quality, gearshift protection elegantly attached; nice and tight to lace, very good anti-slip protection, very torsion-resistant, ankle protectors inside and outside sit well, heel area and toe box well reinforced, covers the ankles to protect them properly, certified boot; good grip on notches and levers, good driving experience, non-slip sole
minus: Rolls off stiff and woody when walking, appears heavier than actual weight, not very air permeable, at summer temperatures above 20 ° C it is less comfortable to wear and less suitable for everyday use; quite heavy weight; awkward to put on; few sizes
Conclusion: As if it had sprung from Grandpa’s box – the Rev’it Rodeo scores with very high quality leather, acceptable safety values (certification according to standard) and a lot of driving comfort. Just right for vintage fans.
MOTORRAD verdict: good
Sidi Insider
mps photo studio
Sidi Insider

plus: Excellent fit, proportions fit well, very comfortable, high wearing comfort when driving and walking, feel very light on the foot; Shoe fits tightly, very direct feeling when changing gears and braking; Protector cups on the ankle inside and outside, reinforced toe box, heel securely embedded
minus: Comparatively soft and smooth sole; low shaft height, hardly any protection in the transition from leg to foot, textile fabric used over a large area with less abrasion protection compared to leather, moderate protection against stripping; poor equipment
Conclusion: The Sidi Insider is the right choice for passionate sneaker wearers who want at least some fall protection when riding a motorcycle. The light and comfortable shoe offers a good minimum solution in terms of safety.
MOTORRAD verdict: good
Vanucci Tifoso VTS4

minus: Walking comfort rather moderate, seams press and chafe; Ankle protector shells placed quite deep, create pressure points when driving; somewhat listless processing; Sole too soft and not very rigid, toe box and heel area only minimally reinforced; Quickly sweaty at higher temperatures above 20 ° C
Conclusion: The Vanucci Tifoso bears the standard test mark, so it is a certified motorcycle shoe. Safety on the bike: satisfactory. Everyday rating for the chic, but not so comfortable sneaker: only satisfactory.
MOTORRAD verdict: satisfactory
This is how MOTORRAD tests
City boots should be usable on a motorcycle and also on foot. In addition to our usual driving tests on a mountain route that demands a lot of driving dynamics and thus motorcycle-specific foot movements, we also went on extensive city marches with the individual test samples. It showed how easy to roll and how comfortable the shoes are in everyday life. In terms of weather protection, there was no extra wet test; cold and wet protection were assessed (for example, through thick lining, hydrophobic upper material or membrane equipment). In contrast, there was air conditioning for summer, the office and strolling around town. The best balance of weather protection and air conditioning (ventilation, breathable material) scored the most. In addition to the evaluation of the equipment and workmanship, the safety equipment counted above all: Reinforcements, protectors, cushioning, anti-slip protection, torsional stiffness of the sole and abrasion-resistant upper material counted a lot.

A smart looking sneaker wins. Ironically, the one from BMW – from which one hardly expects hip footwear. But Bayern did everything right and combined great security with very good comfort and a fashionable kick. It is surprising that heavy leather but amazingly comfortable vintage boots outperform lighter biker trainers on the three following seats. But which are still very neat. The Modeka shows, however, that a slightly modified casual shoe that offers little security is quickly taken off the hook.

Torsion-resistant soles, reinforcements and protectors
City boots with a climate membrane are also available. Although they can superficially score points in terms of weather protection, they usually only provide an advantage in short rain showers. Because the shoes are seldom cut so high and stowed under weatherproof trousers that water stays outside for a long time. For this comparison, we have therefore dispensed with an extra wetness test. In practice with summery temperatures, the membrane models were found to be weaker in comparison with the indoor climate criterion, so that the equipment advantage in these test candidates sometimes quickly lapsed.
A test mark of the CE standard EN 13634, which is approved by accredited testing institutes such as TuV Rheinland, was more decisive for a good result. This certifies that it is a protective shoe for motorcyclists. This only says something about the actual safety of the city boat to a limited extent, because one can argue about the test criteria. But at least five of the eleven models have a test mark, and the manufacturers are evidently not afraid of an independent tapping of their product in terms of safety.
But city boots that are not certified can also offer good security. In any case, it was noticeable in the test how well thought-out some constructions are. Torsion-resistant soles, reinforcements and protectors in the right places, very solid, abrasion-resistant upper material, tight seams. The shoes may look very civil and fashionable, but a few of them offer more protection than many less cleverly made normal motorcycle boots. So before you start yelling about “Sneakers on the moped, are you crazy?”, It is worth taking a closer look at the shoe. As well as a fitting. Because, surprisingly, some of the most comfortable-looking biker sneakers just failed in the comfort rating. It is understandable that these very short shoes cannot offer the best security. That they spoil a stroll through town is less. Fortunately, the different concepts included a number of city boots that were both: good on foot and good on a motorcycle.
