Tokyo Motor Show - Yamaha Tesseract (further than the MP3!) And other hybrid two-wheelers - Used YAMAHA

Among the novelties currently presented at the 40th Tokyo Motor Show, Yamaha unveils a world preview of a four-wheel hybrid motorcycle prototype (gasoline / electric) capable of leaning in turns thanks to its dual fork system..

When it was launched last year, the Piaggio MP3 ushered in the era of "encounters of the third type" with its front fork system allowing you to take an angle despite its three wheels (read).

It may also be necessary to count in a few years with the Yamaha Tesseract, a prototype of a hybrid motorcycle with four wheels with the look of a praying mantis which allows – unlike a quad -! – to lean in the bends thanks to its system of Dual-scythe Suspension.

"With its four wheels on the ground at all times, the Tesseract allows dynamic driving while offering good stability.", promises Yamaha. And as on the Piaggio MP3, it is possible to block the mechanism when stationary to maintain the vertical position.

On the engine side, the Tesseract also plans to play the innovation card with hybrid operation: a classic gasoline engine (V-twin) coupled with an electric motor.

Barely wider than a two-wheeler (72 cm wide for a length of 2.115 m and a height of 1.065 m), the Yamaha Tesseract may be able to ensure the trips home to work in good conditions, but will be more likely to be popular with hikers.

In the meantime, according to Yamaha big boss Takashi Tajikawa, the engineers of the tuning fork mark continue to work on the concept to make it "a top-of-the-range and revolutionary vehicle for the future". To be continued…

XS-V1 Sakura

As a tribute to the 1970 XS-1,650 cc, Yamaha is currently presenting in Tokyo a splendid prototype XS-V1 "Sakura" (cherry blossom) equipped with a 1000 cc air-cooled V-twin, a saddle bass and displaying a beautiful neo-classical spirit.

Yamaha takes the lead on two-wheelers with hybrid engines…

The tuning fork brand uses this 40th Tokyo Motor Show to present its lead in terms of hybrid two-wheelers using both a gasoline engine and an electric motor.

Thus the electric motor of the Luxair "starts up during the acceleration phase to boost the gasoline engine, then it switches to "generator" mode during cruising to recharge the battery".

Ditto for deceleration, since "the engine brake generated makes it possible to produce electricity to recharge the battery", explains Yamaha. Finally, the electric motor also ensures reverse gear..

… and the fuel cell

Like its automotive colleagues, Yamaha is also working on hydrogen engines (fuel cell) with FC-Aquel and on so-called "soft" energies such as methanol with FC-Dii, an evolution of FC- m presented two years ago.

Yamaha also presents several "classic" electric scooters: the Bobby which folds up to be able to be stored in the trunk, with internet access and start-up thanks to its owner’s mobile phone (see our video), or the C3 + which despite its small size size allows you to store a helmet under the saddle.
