Accessories specialist Touratech With its Connect system, it provides a combination of app and hardware component that turns the smartphone into a freely configurable real-time display that provides the driver with a wealth of data in a structured manner.

Touratech

The hardware is permanently installed on the vehicle as a dust- and waterproof dongle. The connection is made vehicle-specific to existing plug connections. The electronics read the data from the vehicle’s own sensors directly from the CAN bus and transmit them to the smartphone via an easy-to-connect Bluetooth connection. Other connectivity features such as telephony or navigation can be used at the same time.

Extensively configurable

The app, available for iOS and Android, visualizes the data on the smartphone screen. The display can be configured extensively. In addition to basic values ​​such as speed, engine speed, outside temperature or fuel level, self-defined vehicle data can also be displayed, such as the temperature from which the engine can be driven in a sporty manner or the speed for changing gears when driving with fuel – indicated by a shift light. The number of curves driven, the number of gear changes on a route or the currently requested engine power can also be visualized.

Numerous parameters can be queried to improve your own driving style. For example, the braking force (current, average, maximum) can be displayed, which allows conclusions to be drawn about the remaining reserves for individual braking behavior. The tilt behavior can also be analyzed with regard to the utilization of the limit area. But performance parameters such as acceleration from zero to one hundred or cornering speed can also be recorded. Data freaks can access over 60 values ​​distributed over eight functional areas. All data can also be saved in a motorcycle profile.

The Touratech Connect app including hardware is currently available for the BMW models BMW R 1250 GS / Adventure and R 1200 GS / Adventure (from 08/2015). Further models are to follow. The package price is 99.90 euros.

Conclusion

Anyone who feels inadequately informed with the data that can be displayed in the series cockpit can use the Touratech Connect app to be flooded with data. But don’t forget, your eyes should be on the road.
