Aged 29, Simon Andrews had notably participated in the world endurance championship within the team, with other big names in the Tourist Trophy that he had competed every year since 2011. He had also made some freelance work in the World Superbike, on the official Kawasaki in 2010.

After his crash in the fourth lap of the Superstock race on Saturday, approaching the Metropole bend, riding the S1000RR of team Penz13, he was transferred to intensive care at Belfast hospital where he unfortunately did not survived his injuries and passed away surrounded by his parents, his fiancee Lisa and his best friend Breakers.

"He had competition in his blood"

"Simon loved road racing and he loved competing in the North West 200," said his father, adding that he had his "first bike at the age of 4 and started racing at the age of 16".

"His mother and I are very proud of his race results," continues Stuart Andrews. “Simon had competition in his blood and he preferred road racing to small circuits. He was fully aware of the dangers, but he liked the challenges it presented. Simon always said that when you have tasted road racing, more nothing compares ".

"Downside"

"It’s a very sad day and I extend my condolences to Simon’s family, his friends and his team," said North West 200 manager Mervyn Whyte, while for the team manager of Penz13, "at times like this there are no words".

"Racing is our life, our passion, our world, and days like this are the flip side," says Rico Penzkofer: "words cannot heal wounds today, but we wish the family from Simon all the courage you need during these difficult times. Simon, my friend, we will never forget you ".
