Test Yamaha XTZ 1200 Super Tenere: the smooth traveler !
It was long desired but here it is finally, this new Super Tenere 1200 XTZ! Site has tested it for you on more than 1000 km of roads and tracks of all kinds between Madrid and Lisbon. Ready for the great adventure ? First test !
Very good off-road skills
The new big Yamaha trail is also extremely well suspended: the conditions of some of the roads taken could easily have damaged the Super T’s suspension, but it does very well, absorbing imperfections, holes and bumps. Even by stepping up the pace, handling remains remarkable. The inverted fork is very well tuned to the rear shock and the suspension work of the big XTZ is unmistakable.
This Spanish-Portuguese trip, due to the capricious weather, unfortunately did not allow us to go through large "off road" portions. We would have liked to test it more off the beaten track, but the few parts of earthy and stony tracks we took still demonstrated the suitability of the machine for this kind of practice. For such a displacement, the motorcycle is light to handle and plays with whatever roads they may be. !
The Traction Control does indeed allow to benefit from an interesting traction on grounds with poor grip. Under these conditions, the ideal compromise is the TCS2 position which allows good traction while allowing slight trajectory corrections under acceleration..
This Super T is therefore a fabulous object to enjoy! Maintenance has also been designed to be as easy as possible, especially as the Yamaha XTZ 1200 Super Tenere looks very reliable. The future will certainly confirm it but already, out of the twenty machines launched in this "Ride For Life", none has suffered any noticeable degradation at any level whatsoever..
The objective "pleasure and incentive to travel" is largely achieved with this Yam ‘which gives only one desire: to ride, and to ride for a long time! So we quickly become demanding and the autonomy, which limits supplies to a maximum of 300 km, seems ridiculous compared to the ability of this "Super Moto" for long crossings. !
Super comfortable, very easy to use and super fun to drive, the Yamaha XTZ 1200 deserves its superlative! At the end of 1000 kilometers covered in two days, no trace of fatigue to report. The bike is relaxing and comfortable and just asks to ride, which we gladly grant it as the exercise is pleasant.
Sides reproaches, one could possibly, according to the tastes, regret the style a little too "Behemesque" of the side cases which equip the original "First Edition". This pack also includes an engine protection shoe, a headlight protection plexiglass (not approved because slightly modifying the light beam) and a "First Edition" sticker to identify the series. Another very small flaw: the side stand, admittedly very discreet, does not deploy very easily from the pilot seat.
Finally, the last thing that annoys: the price of the toy … The Yamaha XTZ 1200 Super Tenere "First Edition" will be available at 14,999 euros … The Super Tenere 1200 XTZ which will be released after the First Edition will logically be a a little cheaper … To be continued: stay tuned !
