It’s a surprise, it’s unprecedented, it’s superb. With this R version, the Daytona 675 in turn reaches the rank of prestigious sports cars equipped as standard with the top suspensions: Ohlins. In this wake were illustrated the Yamaha R1 SP 2006 and SP-R 2010, the Ducati 1198 R Corse, the Aprilia RSV4 Factory…* That big beast of Superbike. Triumph dares to offer a Supersport with Swedish suspensions, unheard of in this category – with the exception of the Ducati 749 R, but it was a limited series model, sold for entry into the world championship. The English sportswoman was already shining particularly well for her performances; this is what make it majestic on the track.
If there was just that…. The Daytona 675 R is a real gem, which makes you want to slam a stopwatch just by detailing it. At the end of the Ohlins fork, the brake calipers here are radial monobloc Brembo: the big top. To give them more efficiency and bite feel, the 19mm Nissin master cylinder is swapped out for an 18mm Brembo. The mudguards are carbon, the tires are downright Pirelli Diablo Superbike (re-cut slick, what …) and to excite the retina a little more, the rear frame tubes are painted red; stark contrast to the pearly white of the cabinet. This R takes advantage of the operation to lose a kilo, allowing it to display an insolent 185 kg all full facts. The calligraphy of the stickers is also evolving, but this pistarde smells so much of powder that we would have appreciated something more flashy. Ah sure, the wallet takes a little bit of the bamboo – but the R is a good deal: the value of the equipment (Ohlins NIX 30 fork, Ohlins TTX 36 shock absorber, carbon parts, shifter) would cost you more than double s’ it had to be acquired separately. The suspension equipment alone makes the Daytona R advantageous in every way – everything else is a freebie. So, no excuse not to have fun.
* I could have cited the S and R versions of the Ducati, the older RSV R and Factory from Aprilia, the Yamaha FZR 750 R and R7, and more. But soon we will be able to see them all in a special section – no jealous ones.
