If a MOTORRAD endurance test machine only needs 15 months to unwind 50,000 kilometers, there are exactly two reasons. First, the editors love the part. Second: Virtually nothing breaks. This is what happened with the Triumph Tiger 800 presented in the 2011 model year. The main reason for its popularity is the famous engine. The wonderfully hissing and hoarse snotty triple is not a disdainful organ donation from the 125 hp Daytona or the 106 hp Street Triple, but a quasi new design. There was nothing to “just drill open” – on the contrary, the hole was pretty much the only thing that the 95 hp Tiger row of three has in common with the enthusiastic athletes’ hearts of its sisters.

In return, there was a lot more stroke and thus a high-torque and high-torque motor to which the 675’s addiction to speed is completely alien. The Tiger triple, which is already in the speed cellar, lifts between 4000 and 9000 tours always over 70 Nm. Always! And the same applies to the XC – to put it cautiously: a super awesome engine, very nice trimmings.

The obligatory service booklet tip should not be missing on the Triumph Tiger 800 either. For good reason: Regular visits to the workshop increase the likelihood that the recalls and service campaigns (see model update box) have actually been carried out. Original handlebars and suspension elements did not satisfy every Tiger owner, and so it was diligently converted – then please ask for approvals / entries. As with many newer (Triumph) motorcycles, relatively early brake disc wear is also an issue with the Tiger. The front windows can already be due after 20,000 kilometers, which can cost around 400 to 500 euros at an authorized dealer. Every now and then there are somewhat loose steering head bearings and vibration cracks on the windshield, but even that rarely happens. The bottom line is that the Tiger is rock solid. The surveyor can therefore concentrate fully on assessing the general condition.

The price level of the Triumph Tiger 800 for the different years of construction.
The used range is good to very good and is divided equally between the street Tiger and the XC version. The price difference (the XC was 800 to 900 euros more expensive) remains the same for the used models – the better equipped XC is almost always more expensive. Almost all Triumph Tiger 800s sold in Germany from March 2011 are equipped with ABS. Conversely, this means: be careful with very early tigers (e.g. 2011 demonstration machines), they do not have ABS, which does not reduce driving fun, but makes reselling difficult. The same applies to imports (even after 2011!), Often from Italy.
Bargain hunters are specifically looking for early, ABS-free Triumph Tiger 800 with high mileage. You can get them for less than 5000 euros. The majority of the offer ranges between 7,000 and 8,000 euros. The range is wide: from the first-hand sweetheart with less than 5000 kilometers to the king of kilometers with full equipment, everything is included. Chassis optimizations and luggage systems are rewarded, but do not justify surcharges for the moon price. Dealers like the tigers, they are gladly accepted in part exchange. 9000 euros are the absolute pain threshold for used prices, because there are already new demonstrators.

2011 First model year Tiger 800 / XC. ABS only available from March 2011 at an extra charge (600 euros). Colors Tiger 800: White, Black, Yellow; XC: white, black, orange. Prices: 8790/9590 euros.
2012 Changes: Frame coating in graphite (previously silver), new side stand and mount. New prices: 8990/9890 euros.
2013 No technical changes. New colors: On the Tiger 800 the yellow is replaced by blue, on the XC matt khaki green replaces the orange. New prices: 9590 / 10,490 euros.
2014 No technical changes, new prices: 9640/10 540 euros. Tiger 800 XC SE special model (Special Edition): red frame, black handlebars, black exhaust heat shields, black pillion passenger grab handles; Color: Black ; Price: 10,690 euros.
2015 Complete revision, including Fairing, gearbox, throttle valve actuation (ride-by-wire). The road version is now called XR, and there are still top versions for both models (XRx, XRT, XCx, XCA), with extended equipment (including on-board computer, four engine mappings, traction control, cruise control). Prices: 9990 to 12,890 euros.
RECALLS 8/2011: Return spring, main stand (accessory), engine management software; 4/2012: return spring switching mechanism; 2/2013: Replacement of indicator shafts; 11/2014: Replacement of engine control unit.
