Six kilos. For 2013, the Triumph 675 Street Triple R is reduced by 6 kilos. It doesn’t sound like much, but when you’re one of the lightest roadsters on the market, losing so much weight is a real feat. This is part of a series of small improvements to the new take on the bustling mid-size English street-fighter.. After a symbolic change of headlight (sacrilege?!?) Mid-2011, the Street frankly reviews its body to make itself even more efficient.
No gaze changes while the silhouette is turned upside down. The formerly discreet radiator scoops are taking a serious look. The rear loop of the frame painted in red (the signature of the Triumph R models) is all new, in aluminum, and contributes to the weight reduction. And by lingering your gaze on this part of the motorcycle, you find that the butt of the motorcycle has become much refined, I would even say more, that something is missing…
Bingo! Double silencers. They leave the buttocks in favor of an exhaust in a low position. So, yes, the Street Triple loses a little of its identity, but it is all beneficial in dynamics: lowering of the center of gravity, weight loss (a pot and tubes less), and a much more aerial posterior..
A new swing arm takes place, anchored to a redesigned frame. This perimeter in aluminum tubes looks a lot like the previous one but has fewer parts and welds. Lighter and more rigid, it also announces a more closed caster angle, going from 23.9 ° to 23.4 °. Already incredibly agile, the little Speed will literally jump into the bend.
Then come out like a bullet with the fiery temperament of its 3 cylinders. This is one of the few things that does not change on this machine. No one will complain about it. A success completes this engine, at the same time playful, powerful, lively, and of a temperament which makes it more than endearing. The power is unchanged; its maximum is however reached a tad later. Surely a consequence of the new exhaust line.
As the R version, the 675 Street Triple is intended to be more efficient and is aimed at a clientele more demanding in terms of handling, both road and sports. The brake calipers are radial and have 4 pistons (axial and 2 pistons on the standard) around 310mm discs – the 19mm master cylinder is also radial. A disconnectable and configurable ABS on the handlebars arrives with this new generation; available as an option.
The R offers better suspensions with more travel and are fully adjustable; 41mm inverted fork and separate reservoir shock absorber are adjustable for rebound, compression and preload.
A real star in its category, the Street Triple is tempting … for amateurs and rascals. The latter will have more difficulty to seize it from now on, because the English is finally protected by a coded key. If the temptation of the circuit tickles you, a shifter is available as an option.
Stylistically, this overhaul will make some cough. Technically, Hinckley’s little bombshell is full of liveliness. The arsouilleurs will feast, the competitors much less.
