Max Biaggi signs with Alstare Suzuki !
It’s done: the Roman Emperor will compete in the 2007 World Superbike on the handlebars of a GSX-R 1000 K7! After a sabbatical year, Max will come back to us in great shape, ready to do battle with Bayliss, Haga, Toseland and all the others. ! Trailer…
The rumors which were rife lately have finally given way to the official announcement: after being approached at Ducati Corse in MotoGP – but Capirossi did not want him -, then at D’Antin – but Biaggi did not want a "satellite" equipment -, the Roman Emperor yesterday signed a one year contract with Francis Batta within the official Alstare Suzuki team.
Already last year, the Italian almost took part in the Superbike World Championship at Suzuki, but the fees of the Monegasque had finally got the better of the motivation of the famous Belgian Team Manager….
This year, the meeting ended with a radiant and frank handshake, to the delight of the fans but also of Biaggi and Batta, not to mention Flammini, boss of FGSport and promoter of the World Superbike. !
"It’s a big day", Max exclaims:"I have always followed the World Superbike which in my opinion is an extremely fascinating championship. I have always admired the pilots participating in this competition and I appreciate their technical level", ignites the pilot who had already expressed in the past all his admiration for Ben Bostrom, now registered in the American championship.
True to its philosophy (read), the terror of the Grand-Prix only wanted to make its comeback within an official team. Definitely burnt out at Yamaha then at Honda, he therefore found refuge with the "future ex-world champion" Superbike team…
"I’m back in competitive sport and happy to race for an official team", continues Max:"I’m still so determined and really want to win the Superbike World Championship! This is probably the biggest challenge of my career", launches the pilot who during his first outing in 500 cc had managed to beat Mick Doohan … But without winning a title thereafter.
For his part, Francis Batta happily welcomes this new recruit: "Max Biaggi is undeniably an added value for the team and for the championship. We will have the best staff at their disposal", already promises the team manager who believes"a lot in his abilities"and knows that"his desire is to become the first Italian rider to win the World Superbike Championship".
But the two sides are not the only ones to be in heaven. Paolo Alberto Flammini also rubs his hands: "the arrival in Superbike of one of the greatest riders in motorcycle history proves the formidable fascination that this category generates among fans. In addition, Max’s participation is the result of a collaboration between Team Alstare and FGSport", self-congratulates the business man.
"We are confident this will amplify public interest. His presence will also increase the level of competition and the spectacle that makes the Mondial Superbike one of the most exciting championships in the world.", insists Flammini.
Obviously, this news does not go without opening a new debate: who will be the Emperor’s teammate? We are already whispering about this that Suzuki, very attached to his Japanese rider Yukio Kagayama – who is having a good end of the season – could part with Troy Corser, the fallen world champion … !
