S. G. : Pfff, there is not one to catch up with the other. There are a few reputations in the paddock, but in terms of being responsible … In general, the riders aren’t really that way. Let’s say that is not their first quality !

MNC: Can you tell us which one is the funniest of all? ?
S. G. : Uh, you have to know that between pilots, there are not a lot of social links. We are competitors first and foremost and the goal is not to make friends. There aren’t really any comedians, maybe some are more relaxed than others but our job is dangerous, everyone stays focused on what they are doing. There aren’t too many clowns !

MNC: So perhaps the most relaxed !?
S. G .: The most relaxed? Nah … I don’t have the right. Ah it’s hard to say…

S. G .: He has a bit of a “phew” side to him and he sometimes does Elvis Presley imitations that are quite good (laughs). It’s pretty funny, yes. So I would vote for Torres.

MNC: Who do you think was the man of the year? ?
S. G .: Well the driver of the year 2016 can only be Johnny! Two titles in a row, it hadn’t happened for a long time. He has dominated the last two seasons in a superb way that we haven’t seen for a long time too. The pilot of the year is 100% Johnny !

MNC: What if we added the title of the bravest pilot? ?
S. G .: It’s not easy to say now … All pilots are brave, you have to be. Nah frankly, the bravest, it’s difficult to differentiate him.

MNC: Assuming you could vote for yourself, you would given your season ?
S. G .: Yeah, you know, we’re all brave because the job demands it. You’re in competition all the time, but you also have to face adversity, injuries … We all have more or less that in the back of our heads when you get back on the bike after an injury. There were great moments like that, with injured drivers who drove right after. In this specific case, this year, I actually had the biggest fall and the best comeback. But hey, it’s part of our reflexes, of our DNA.

MNC: Who is the toughest rider on the track, the fiercest ?
S. G .: One of the hardest to overtake on the track is Sykes. Sykes and Davies, because they’re two big brakemen. But especially Sykes: he brakes late, very late, and then he has fairly "low" shift speeds (well in quotes, eh!). It makes good use of the engine brake. When you’re behind, it’s very difficult to overtake him.

MNC: And the most talented ?
S. G .: No idea ! No really.

MNC: We have to admit that there is no shortage of talent in World Superbike. But neither in British Superbike! You will be driving "at home" in 2017. You have tested the new GSX-R1000 ?
S. G .: No, I haven’t ridden since the final in Qatar. I haven’t tried the Suzuki so I can’t tell you about it.

MNC: When is it planned ?
S. G .: I don’t know exactly yet. The team has received the "stock" motorcycles and is currently receiving the Racing parts, everything is being built. We attack the first race in April, the first weekend, so we will have a little time to put everything in place.
