Statements and analysis of the Superbike at Magny-Cours
The thirteenth round of the World SBK 2013 took place this weekend in Magny-Cours, France. To complete our live reports, here are the statements of the Superbike riders as well as the Website analysis of the two French races.
Analysis of the World Superbike at Magny-Cours
Lowes became the 2013 Supersport World Champion this Sunday, without even waiting for the last race of the season scheduled in Jerez in two short weeks! After Cal Crutchlow in 2009 and Chaz Davies in 2011, Sam becomes the third British driver to win the title.
Besides their nationality, there is another important common point, undoubtedly decisive, which binds these three men: their machine, a YZF-R6! Christian Iddon, third in the French event held yesterday on his MV Agusta, might do well to ride a Yamaha in 2015 ?
Sam Lowes was supposed to drive a Yam ‘the next two seasons (read). Third in the 2012 championship behind three-time champion Kenan Sofuoglu, and his Honda PTR teammate Jules Cluzel, the English driver wanted to win the WSSP title with his new team Yakhnich – that’s it! – before going up to WSBK…
They are the Champions
By mutual agreement, however, Sam and the Russian team will separate at the end of this excellent season: "Next year the Yakhnich Motorsport team will participate in the World Supersport and World Superbike championships", warns the team, without specifying that it was continuing its adventure with Yamaha…
For his part, Sam Lowes will go to try his luck at Moto2, a championship currently dominated by another English rider: Scott Redding! "Both sides agreed that such a talented driver must prove himself in other championships", report the Russians.
Titled in British Supersport in 2010 and in Mondial Supersport this year, it is indeed time for the famous – more and more anyway! – English n ° 11 to taste another category and to rub shoulders with other pilots.
"I am very happy to have obtained the title of champion !"Said Sam last night. Like a perfect gentleman, the young pilot – he turned 23 on September 14 – had a little word for the defeated:"I would be eternally grateful to my opponents who helped me get faster".
"I would like to say a huge thank you to Kenan", Lowes added:"He’s a great driver, I consider him a friend and I respect him a lot for the season he has had. Thanks for the fight !". In which team will Sam land in Moto2? Will he be more competitive than his Turkish friend? Business to follow on Site…
Like Sam Lowes in Supersport, Tom Sykes is the rider who posted the most "best race times" this season in Superbike. Yesterday, the Kawasaki rider was – by far – the fastest on the track, Tom sweeping the record held since 2009 by a certain Nitro Nori !
Major Tom in orbit
With his twelve best laps in the race this season, Sykes is sure to receive the "Best Pirelli Tour" award ahead of Eugene Laverty (4 times), Chaz Davies (3), Sylvain Guintoli (2), Michel Fabrizio, Marco Melandri, Jonathan Rea and Davide Giugliano (each 1).
Unbeatable on certain circuits, including that of Magny-Cours this weekend (!), The Ninja n ° 66 also signed eight Superpoles in 2013. In May, he was above all on 16 podiums, including nine first steps, collecting 411 points in thirteen rounds, 37 more than Laverty and 38 more than Guintoli…
Missing out on the 2012 title for half a point, Tom holds his revenge and amply deserves this coronation, the first of his career! What progress has been made by Tom since his arrival in WSBK alongside – in the shadows! – by Ben Spies at Yamaha in 2009…
Extremely swift, the native of Huddersfield had to learn, little by little, to temper his ardor (read our). Switched to Kawasaki in 2010, the English Ninja had to wait two seasons before proving himself, taking advantage of an increasingly sharp motorcycle….
Because Sykes is not the only one to have progressed phenomenally in the last two years. Akashi’s firm, subscribed to the last places in the Superbike manufacturer’s ranking for many years, has worked tirelessly to make its ZX-10R a winning machine !
So much so that the Kawa ‘- the n ° 66 in any case – has become, to date, the most formidable bike on the grid: the ease with which Sykes flew over the Nivernais track this weekend was enough to demonstrate it. . Over the entire 2013 season, however, the RSV4 retains the advantage…
With 500 points on the clock (out of 625 maximum in 25 races), Aprilia effectively remains at the head of the constructor championship. BMW is 88 lengths behind the Italian, Honda at 266, Suzuki at 275 and Ducati at 331. Yamaha, which has only taken part in one event this year, counts for butter and oil.
Sykes very close to the goal … Aprilia too !
Only Kawasaki and its 465 points can therefore still claim, mathematically, to steal the world crown from Aprilia whose two official riders are precisely the only ones able – mathematically still – to deprive Tom Sykes of his title of Champion … Atmosphere !
Eugene Laverty and Sylvain Guintoli – who were awarded a nice 9/10 in synchronized fall by the MNC jury – will therefore run not only to defend their slim chance to crown the world crown, but also and above all to ensure the firm of Noale a third constructor title after those of 2010 and 2012.
To beat Aprilia in the championship – it looks like an impossible mission – the Greens will naturally count on their potential world champion but also, we hope, on Loris Baz! Removed from the circuits since he broke a vertebra at the Nurburgring, the No. 76 should be back for the WSBK 2013 grand final.
"Very difficult weekend for me trying to please everyone! Between interviews, autographs and meals !", Bazooka testified on his Facebook page this afternoon. Supported this weekend at Magny-Cours by his many fans, his sponsors and partners, Loris concluded in a cheerful tone:"strongly Jerez !"
Consistently in the Top 10 and regularly in the Top 5 since the opening of the season in Australia, the "Green Giant" has not competed in a race since his victory at Silverstone in early August. We can bet that Loris will instantly find his marks on the Spanish track and pocket big points on October 20.
Baz must indeed make up for lost time and place! Sixth in the championship after the English event (180 points), Loris was overtaken this weekend alone by Fabrizio and Giugliano. If Michel shouldn’t be too much of a problem for Loris – especially if the Honda crashes # 84 again! – Davide on the other hand should give him more trouble.
Aprilia Althea’s n ° 34 may indeed be hard to beat: if the Superstock 1000 champion (2011) is not quite as fast, enduring and consistent as Aprilia Racing Team n ° 50 and 58 , it is not very far.
First private driver in the general classification, Giugliano finished the French races in two fourth places ahead of the BMW officials, "per favore"! Davide currently has 15 points more than our national Loris … The duel between Aprilia and Kawasaki is played there too.
Sylvain Guintoli – we hope to be as sharp and brawling as at the end of the second round! – and Eugene Laverty will therefore not be the only ones to carry the colors of Aprilia high in two weeks in Jerez. In addition, Toni Elias (Aprilia Red Devils Roma) as a former star of the Intercontinental Circus, could do well…..
Unlike their World Superbike counterparts, MotoGP riders know the Andalusian track like the back of their hand. Marco Melandri is one of them and could also benefit from his many GPs raced in Jerez, and the countless winter tests carried out there as well. !
The weather, which the teams hope is milder than at Magny-Cours, should serve the same Marco and his teammate Chaz Davies, whose S1000RRs did not appreciate the changing weather conditions and the little dry driving before the two races..
Under the Spanish sun, could Melandri and Davies offer their "semi-official" but "completely on the way" (!) BMW motorcycles a last glass of Champagne, Prosecco, a sparkling alcoholic drink? Last year, during the final – then French – of the WSBK, Melandri and Laverty had indeed offered a final double to the Yamaha R1…
Let’s finally shoot to conclude our helmet to Vincent Philippe, sixth of the second round of WSBK at Magny-Cours this Sunday! Not content to replace Leon Camier on the handlebars of the Suzuki Fixi Crescent team’s GSX-R, the eight-time World Endurance champion has taken over from Jules Cluzel !
Cursed this Sunday, the French n ° 16 fell in each round and only collected two small points … Forfeit from the Nurburgring – like Baz, Rea and Checa! – Camier hasn’t known a more pleasant day. Indeed, Suzuki # 2 recently tweeted on Twitter a meaningful metaphor…
"Have you ever watched someone bang your girlfriend…", asked his" followers "the Englishman who does not have his tongue pierced in his pocket …"This is what I feel when I watch another ride my bike! Uncool".
When as a bonus, the guy in question – Vincent Philippe, not to (congratulate) him – gets off and asks for more … One can imagine the ordeal of poor "Kamir" !
