The twelfth round of the World SBK 2012 took place on Sunday at the Nurburgring. To complete our reports, here are the statements of the SBK riders, our analyzes and the video summaries of the Superbike and Supersport races..

Statements by Superbike riders in Germany

Max Biaggi, 1st then 13th:
"We did a good job over the weekend which gave us a really good set-up. In the first run, I got off to a good start and Sykes started off at a crazy pace. When I saw him start to slow down, I tried to pass. I thought maybe he was employing some strategy but the gap widened so I continued to attack until the checkered flag came out. The fall in the second race is a real shame. I didn’t brake that hard, but I hit a bump and couldn’t do anything to prevent the slip. I am disappointed because I then rode at the pace of the best. Taking into account what happened, we saved the furniture and we start from the Nurburgring at the head of the provisional. It could have been worse, but we could also have repeated our good first run result. In Portimao, we will start from scratch. The fight is close, but we will fight until the end".

Chaz Davies, 3rd then 1st:
"What a day. My goal was to finish in the Top 6 twice. A third place and a win suits me perfectly! I’m really starting to get the hang of it in WSBK. I am obviously supported by an excellent team. Thanks everyone. Ottimo lavoro ! (excellent work, editor’s note) It was also great to share the podium with two good friends".

Eugene Laverty, 2nd (x 2):
"Two great races, without a doubt. I struggled at the start of the first run, the bike was slipping a lot so I had to wait a few laps before I could really start attacking. Towards the end, I had to ward off Davies’ attacks and managed to hang on to second place. In the second heat, overtaking Tom Sykes cost me a few seconds, but I was able to recover them afterwards. Thanks to the falls of Max and Melandri, I found myself fighting for the podium. At that point, I had to fend off the Camier attacks but Chaz had already run away in front. I am completely happy with his two second places for Aprilia and I want to congratulate Davies on his well-deserved victory".

Leon Camier, 5th then 3rd:
"The weekend was rich in events – as usual – starting with my start from the last row on the grid in the first run. The Crescent Suzuki team did a great job of fixing the problem and getting me out in time for the warm-up lap. I went head in the handlebars and I went full. I quickly passed my opponents one by one and progressed lap after lap. In the end I was going up on Sykes and I think I could have passed it too, but I ran out of time".

"I got off to a disastrous start in the second heat and had to roll up my sleeves again to get back up to the field. I ended up in third place after 13 laps and passed Laverty two laps later. But I was scared in the final chicane one lap from the end, Laverty came back and despite my best efforts, he beat me. I am very happy with this podium: it’s been a long time. The result of the first race was not bad either. Today the bike was pretty good. The chassis has always been good and the Motec electronics work great. All of this allowed us to compete with the best. I’m really looking forward to competing in the next two races and I hope the team can continue to make progress in order to get more results like today.".

Tom Sykes, 4th then 5th:
"There is a question mark left on the first race, as we used the same type of tires that we had ridden all weekend, the softer of the rear tires. We had done long sessions on two of these tires. Each time, we were able to set lap times in 1.55 at the end of the race simulation. So it’s very strange that today we were able to ride a 1 ’55 very comfortably at the start of the race, but then experienced a massive drop in performance. It was "rear chatter" (when the rear jumps, Editor’s note), but today it felt more like bouncing back, and that’s something we’ve never experienced with this bike before this weekend".

"We have changed the choice of tires (for the second round, Editor’s note) and selected the rear ‘B’ type, which we didn’t really like. Things could have been a lot better. Some other riders had a worse day than us, so I’m very happy to take some good points in each race. It was a tough day, but we collected some points that ultimately allow us to catch up a bit in the championship. We will continue to work hard for further good results".

Carlos Checa, 12th then 6th:
"I fell, that’s how it is: we were doing what we had to do, attacking hard to stay at the forefront. It’s a shame because I had a good start and had a good pace. Once I got back on the track I regained my rhythm and was able to pass several runners during the race. It was not easy because I had lost my brake pedal in the fall. But I think I had a good race starting from last place, and I was able to take a few points in the end. The second race went better in terms of the result, but we couldn’t fight with the others who dumped us in the acceleration: in my opinion, the game is unbalanced at the moment. We have to keep fighting and doing what we can with what we have. We’ll push our gear to the limit and see what it turns out".

Marco Melandri, DNF (x 2):
"I got my first double zero today. The two races were very different, but the result is the same. I am very disappointed for the team who are working so hard. In the first run, I had a lot of trouble with the grip at the rear. I was losing a lot to the guys in front of me so I tried to catch up with them under braking. I was braking really hard each time, but in turn 8 I took a bump and lost the front end. I still don’t know what caused my crash in the second race. I was on the straight and lost the front. It was strange. I will now recharge my batteries and go back to battle in Portugal".
