WorldSBK Driver Statements

BMW n ° 35, Rafaelle De Rosa:
"I am delighted with the way we have worked today. I left yesterday’s incident behind me and believe we have worked effectively here. I rode the Superbike to gain confidence and prepare myself as well as possible for Laguna. I am happy to have the opportunity to race in America, but I am very sorry for Markus and I hope he will be back very soon. I have never been to Laguna but I know it is a spectacular track, the experience can only be beneficial. I thank Genesio for giving me this chance".

BMW n ° 81, Jordi Torres:
"The day went very well. We did various tests on the electronics, working on the traction control and anti-wheelie systems, and also tested a few front tires, some of which performed better than others. I did a little crash on turn 4 but it was nothing, it was low speed. The important thing is that at the end of the day we increased our level of confidence, especially with the front of the bike. We understood how the bike behaves with the different front tires. We did a good job and I feel better prepared for Laguna Seca".

Ducati n ° 7, Chaz Davies:
"Today we tried a different setup than the one used for racing. We mainly focused on the front end, where we still have a few options to explore, and the engine where there is still room for improvement. The new solutions brought by Pirelli gave a good feedback and, most importantly, my right wrist didn’t bother me too much: I managed to ride without too much difficulty. We are confident: we are heading to America in great shape and want to bounce back at Laguna Seca".

Ducati n ° 34, Davide Giugliano:
"It’s always interesting to test, especially when you have the chance to explore different solutions than those used during the race. Pirelli has brought in several new options, both front and rear, and we’ve collected some interesting data for development. We have taken a step forward and are now heading to Laguna Seca, a track that I don’t like due to my injury last year, with the aim of forgetting those bad memories and fighting at the top".

Honda n ° 60, Michael van den Mark:
"It was a good day. We evaluated a lot of things without worrying too much about the lap times. It was also good to get back on the track immediately after the end of the race. Towards the end of the day, we went back to the race setup and tried a few modifications to the rear suspension and fork – my times would improve lap after lap. We ended the day very strong and my pace was competitive so we now have a much clearer idea of our package before Laguna".

Honda # 69, Nicky Hayden:
"We started the day in the wet and used that time to try some software updates, just doing laps. Everything seemed to be working well. Throughout the day we tried a variety of things, including suspension settings, for the second half of the season. We made some progress, but we also hit some walls, which is normal during testing. I was hoping to take a bigger step forward because my times were similar to those I was doing at the start of the month. Right before lunch I tried out a few new Pirelli tires with a few good points. I have to say that I am surprised by the enormous amount of work Pirelli does, despite being the only supplier in the category. We’ve given the team a lot of data to sift through, and hopefully we can get this all in order for Laguna.".

Kawasaki n ° 1, Jonathan Rea:
"It was a very good test. We had a huge list of things to try out and went through all the pieces. We tried a lot of things and on the top of the agenda was a few new Pirelli rear tires. We took our time, evaluated all the models and one tire turned out to be very interesting. It is good that they are developing them. Then we moved on to internal testing: we had a few things to test for shifting, braking, and quite a bit to do with Showa. On the electronics side, we continued to work on a few ideas that we had found during our recent trials in Jerez. Finally, we tried a new swingarm. It was a pure test, an evaluation test, and we were able to maintain a good pace. Every lap performed was constant so I’m really happy".

Kawasaki n ° 66, Tom Sykes:
"The test was so good that it depresses me to think about yesterday’s races: we had such good results today! It’s so hard to get into test mode on race weekends that we took advantage of this ride to test some Showa and KHI stuff that was ready to go, and the results were fantastic. I’m really happy with our pace, especially after a long distance: it compares with our race pace this weekend. I am really happy that the sun has finally appeared. We completed over 70 laps and got some really valuable information because we worked on a lot of things. We have made progress in my needs on the bike ".

Yamaha n ° 22, Alex Lowes:
"It was a good test day in Misano as I managed to complete 64 laps. It’s still a little frustrating because I still can’t do as many laps as I would like. Even though we ended up in great weather this afternoon, I’m also a bit disappointed as I always want to work more, but what we managed to try was very positive. We tested different suspension parts, different electronics and at the end of the day we found a better overall tuning. I have the feeling that I have taken a step forward compared to the race weekend. I can’t wait to go to Laguna now, and see if we can keep improving !".

Yamaha n ° 59, Niccolo Canepa:
"I’m really happy with my day and the whole weekend, but today because we tested a lot and improved the bike in many aspects: electronics, chassis and also comfort on the bike. It was very important for me to do this test, but in all honesty I have to admit that I am a little tired: I have spent 12 of the last 13 days on the track, so now is the time to relax a bit. ! I am really happy and I want to thank Yamaha and the team for this opportunity. It was very important to me and I enjoyed it a lot".
