Tom Sykes, "Mister Superpole 2012", has just signed his first pole of the year on the demanding track of Aragon in Spain. The Briton is ahead of his compatriots Laverty and Davies … and our three drivers: Guintoli, Cluzel and Baz.

Author of the official Aragon circuit record last year, Tom Sykes improved his mark in 2013 and could have improved his time even further if he had not let Chaz Davies pass in front of him, just seconds from the end. session. Ah, strategy when you hold us…

Coming out of the pits a little late with a brand new qualifying tire, the n ° 66 Kawasaki was about to start his lap when the marshal waved the checkered flag right under his nose! A few lengths ahead of him, Davies takes advantage of a final lap to grab the half-second that separates him from Sykes.

Starting off at the right pace, BMW driver n ° 19 unfortunately set aside in the middle of the course and had to be content with the 3rd best time of SP3 (third session of the Superpole). "Chazie" is however not disappointed: it is his first "first row" in WSBK, on the circuit which saw him climb last year on his first podium in the category..

Eugene Laverty, at the controls of his official Aprilia n ° 58, thus retains his 2nd place on the grid and is one of the big favorites of the two races which will be contested tomorrow: at 12 noon for the first, 3:30 p.m. for the second … – MNC renderings will fall in stride, stay connected !

So let’s summarize: an Englishman, an Irishman and a Welshman are on the first row of the starting grid in the Superbike World Championship. Who wins? … False, none of the three! There was a trap: the three Frenchmen housed on the second line.

As always in WSBK, the two Sunday races will be long, contested and full of surprises. But they come under the – almost – the best auspices for our French representatives in World Superbike: Sylvain Guintoli and his red Aprilia RSV4, Jules Cluzel and his blue GSX-R1000, Loris Baz and his green ZX-10R.

The n ° 50, 16 and 76 will settle in that order on the starting grid tomorrow in Aragon, and they will try to turn in the race in the same lap times as their predecessors. If we expected to see "Guinters" appear in the Top 5, it is a surprise to find Cluzel there as well. !

For his second participation in the grueling Superpole, Jules the beginner – in this category – takes the 5th place that his teammate, the experienced Leon Camier was aiming for. Unfortunately the victim of a huge high-side on Friday, "Kamir" withdrew due to a nasty injury to his left knee. Suzuki’s hopes therefore rest on Cluzel !

Eclipsed by the pole position of her teammate Tom and by Jules’ achievement, Loris Baz’s performance should not be underestimated: it is his best qualification! The "Green Giant" is ahead of the formidable Davide Giugliano (Aprilia Althea) on the starting grid, as well as two pilots who will be followed on the track or in front of the TV !

Indeed, on the third row will also settle Marco Melandri (BMW Italia) and Jonathan Rea (Honda Pata), two of the most tenacious drivers in the race! We couldn’t have asked for a better way to spice up the two races tomorrow. Hopefully our two young recruits (Jules and Loris) will manage to take the wheel from them !

Eliminated in Superpole 2, Carlos Checa failed to double the stake after his unexpected Australian pole. More demanding of mechanics than Phillip Island is, Aragon promises to be difficult for the Spaniard’s 1199 Panigale. Let’s hope that the machine pampered by the Alstare team will hold up against the 4-cylinders tomorrow. !

The n ° 7 will be accompanied in the fourth row by Leon Haslam on his official Honda and Max Neukirchner on his private Ducati. The third Panigale of the field, that of Ayrton Badovini, occupies the head of the fifth row, in front of the RSV4 of Fabrizio and the Ninja of Alex Lundh.

Leon Camier, as we have seen, will not take the start on Sunday and will give up his 16th place on the grid to Federico Sandi (Kawasaki Perdercini). The Italian will be followed by Ivan Clementi, Mark Aitchison (back on an 1198 prepared by the Effenbert team) and Vittorio Iannuzo.
