Tom Sykes was just as intractable in the second heat as he was in the first, this afternoon at Misano! Behind the Kawasaki n ° 1, Loris Baz and Marco Melandri engaged in a phenomenal duel, which our compatriot won magnificently….

Second Superbike race

Davide Giugliano starts first – a little too early – from the starting grid and takes the lead in the first chicane ahead of Tom Sykes, Toni Elias, Loris Baz, Marco Melandri, Sylvain Guintoli, Jonathan Rea, Chaz Davies, Leon Haslam and Eugene Laverty. Sylvain Barrier is 13th (!), Guarnoni is 17th, Foret does not ride…

As in the first round, Elias lost many places on the first lap, unable to keep up with the pace of the factory machines. The Spaniard finds himself eighth at the start of the second round. Giugliano is warned that he must make a passage in the pits for having stolen the start … Mamma mia !

The n ° 34 was then one second ahead of Sykes and did not return to the pits at the end of the second loop. Loris Baz is still third, a few lengths behind his leader but closely followed by the two official Aprilia n ° 33 and n ° 50.

Giugliano takes his penalty at the end of the 3rd lap. The Romain took to the track in a distant 21st place, behind Peter Sebestyen and his S1000RR Evo prepared by the BMW Toth team. Chris Iddon (Bimota Alstare) suffered a violent highside on lap 4 and limped off the track…

In the following lap, Chaz Davies (Ducati SBK Team) loses the front of his 1199 Panigale … The Welshman tries to start again but must finally give up. The Bologna Superbikes are not spoiled, unlike those of Noale: the RSV4s follow the # 76 ZX-10R on the trail and are less than three seconds behind the leader … Tom Sykes, "who else" ?

Sylvain Guintoli seems the most at ease within the small hunting group and takes more tense trajectories than Melandri, looking for any opening to conclude … Sylvain wisely bides his time, just like Marco who is in the wheel of Loris ?!

15 seconds away, Sylvain Barrier dominates Davide Salom in the fight for the first place of the Evo drivers! The two-time Superstock 1000 champion has made a comeback that is both pleasant and winning. James Toseland can be proud of his colt wearing his # 52.

Davide Giugliano, for his part, made a courageous comeback: n ° 34 took 13th place on the 10th lap. The official Ducati rider is fighting against the best Evo riders, as he aimed for first place in the Superbike classification: hard !

Four seconds behind Tom Sykes still leader, Loris Baz takes care to close all the doors in the face of Marco Melandri. Sylvain Guintoli seems more delicate with his rear tire which frequently initiates untimely slips…

Fifth, Toni Elias is 12 seconds behind the chase group, just ahead of Jonathan Rea, Eugene Laverty, Alex Lowes and Leon Haslam … who loses the front of his Fireblade on the last turn of the 13th lap! The n ° 91 returns to the track in 19th position ahead of Brian Staring.

In front, Marco attacks Loris but remains in the pot of the Kawasaki n ° 76. Baz and Melandri then tumble down the straight line where the red and yellow flag is waved (oil!). The two leaders of this second round happily pass the first sequence without a hitch, just like Sylvain Guintoli who is still a few lengths behind..

In the background, 36 seconds behind "Super" Sykes, "Syl’20" on his BMW and David Salom on his Kawa ‘gratify the public with superb overtaking. The first place of the Evos is always played between them … Badovini and his Bimota are just behind them, ready to pounce. But the duo will not appear in the standings, due to the lack of official BB3 approval.

On the 19th lap, Marco Melandri attacked Loris Baz during the braking of the first chicane. The "Ravenna Hedgehog" tries to stay in front but the "Savoyard Cheetah" responds in the following turn keeping the gas open outside the Aprilia rider !

The little Italian ignited in the next lap, attacking the big French again on the brakes. Loris has to briefly straighten his ZX-10R to let the RSV4 pass, but plunges even more into the curve and regains the advantage under acceleration !

On the penultimate lap, the race director forced Sylvain Barrier to return his 10th place to David Salom. Our compatriot has not said his last word: he has one lap left to regain the lead of the Evo category … Meanwhile, Baz defends his second place against Melandri..

Tom Sykes pocketed a masterful and unstoppable double at Misano, significantly increasing his score in the championship (251 points). Loris Baz can be proud of his second second place, obtained after a thrilling duel against Marco Melandri.

Sylvain Guintoli’s weekend was less productive (5th then 4th) so that "Guinters" is only two points ahead of "Bazooka" in the provisional standings: 212 to 210. Similarly, Jonathan Rea (199 ) is caught by Marco Melandri (179) author of a "small" doubled in front of his audience.
