Almost ten years ago, Yamaha set a milestone with the single-cylinder YP 250 Majesty. It was the first large scooter that combined comfort and sportiness. Today it is mainly two-cylinder scooters that claim these virtues. More powerful, but also significantly more expensive, they have pushed the single-cylinder fraction to the rear. Attempted by the manufacturer to place an inexpensive, manageable and travel-friendly mid-displacement scooter in the gaping gap between 125cc city scooters and the up to 650 cubic centimeter large cars failed for a long time. With one exception: Suzuki Burgman 400.

Yamaha offers this competitor with the Majesty 400 for 6295 euros paroli and arouses interest with a suspension technology highlight. Its particularly torsion-resistant aluminum frame, a novelty in large scooters, in conjunction with a tight suspension setting ensures enormous driving stability. The Majesty is very precise and easy to handle in an inclined position.

A behavior that one would not trust its opulent appearance.
Yamaha does without an ABS or a user-friendly integral brake system, but the double disc brake in the front wheel masters its task with little effort.

AT.The rear disc brake can also be adjusted safely and effectively. And the Majesty is equipped with a parking brake to prevent it from rolling away.
The powerful single-cylinder spontaneously hangs on the gas, revs up effortlessly and, with an extremely harmoniously coordinated variator, produces performance that is definitely on by with larger-displacement scooters. Its low fuel consumption of 3.9 liters of normal gasoline and long inspection intervals of 10,000 kilometers are easy on the wallet.

The wide fairing offers proper wind protection, there is ample space for driver and front passenger, and there is sufficient legroom. Only the passenger pegs are inconveniently placed. There is no shortage of storage compartments in the paneling, and the helmet compartment under the seat bench is also generously dimensioned. All in all, an interesting alternative to some expensive large scooters.
