Cruising smoothly on the seashore …. Abandoning the patina of long curves to be caressed by the sun … Let your arms play at the end of large branches of a wide handlebar…
Passive and peaceful table that the XV 950 Bolt can no longer endure. Faced with this disgust with good feelings, the turbulent Yamaha custom decided to shake up the grannies. It was predictable: seeing the neo-retro turn taken by the XJR 1300, the Bolt fell in love with the same desires. A rant after the meal, the XV sniffed a stroke of philosophy “Yard Built”, locked itself in the garage, and comes out in a Racer version.
Suddenly, she lets her old people (the Midnight Stars) go for a walk on Sundays. The XV 950 Racer, it will seek the confusion in the parking lots, to rub its nose in the new wave of “factory preparations”. A musky cafe-racer fragrance emanates from this machine, coupled with a more compact, more edgy look. Mate the aluminum number plates under the saddle, directly inspired by those of the XJR 1300. Let the spirit go by discovering the minimalist screen, the matching seat cowl and the handlebars-bracelets. That’s it, you’re in! A pair of spoke rims and this ersatz preparation would have been on top.
The mouth is there, but … Do we believe it or not?!? The 942cc twin doesn’t breathe fire, and it doesn’t pretend to. The power is enough to have a nice treat. Once on board, the Joe BAR Team is diluted in the veins. The driving position is different from the standard XV 950. The saddle is 75mm higher, and the half-handlebars take your hands 156mm further forward and 78mm lower. The pilot thus lies more on the machine and grasps the front axle, while the legs also assume a slightly sportier position. The footrests also moved, moving back 150mm and rising 29mm. From a XV to a Racer, we switch. You drive one, you want to drive the other.
The ergonomics taking you on an urban journey to taste, we do not immediately pay attention to the small specificities of this Yamaha XV 950 Racer. Front turn signals offset at the level of the lower triple tree, new stems, larger suspension travel (front: 144 or + 9 mm; rear: 116 or + 6 mm), the fork bellows…
The Racer is not only a stylish variation of the Bolt but also a demonstration that the machine lends itself perfectly to any kind of customization. Yamaha offers a small series of accessories to enhance this bike, developed with Rizoma and Akrapovic – mirror for the handlebar end, footrests cut in the mass and front transmission pulley cover created by Rizoma, clutch and brake levers carved in the mass, license plate holder, front fork brace, Akra exhaust, sport air filter – Then the imagination can make you spend a lot of time in the garage.
