Anyone who has already won individual ratings in the Pikes Peak race with their fast twins knows what a sporty naked bike is all about. Bottpower applies this knowledge to the carbon kit for the XSR 900.

After five years of success, little needs to be said about the Yamaha’s stiff frame and powerful engine. Both real cream, chassis in series but sometimes overwhelmed.

Costs including painting and shipping to Germany: a good 8,700 euros, gross.

For the money you also get an absolutely unique look, which also lives from the aggressive placement of the headlights on the radiator.

Road legal in Germany questionable for several reasons. Firstly, the rump is screwed, secondly, the tank must have an exhaust system since Euro 4 and thirdly, the light test could attest to the need for improvement.

Noble carbon is actually always possible. Unfortunately there is no indication of how much lighter the Yamaha will be.

Yamaha Yard Built XSR 900 Bottpower
Yamaha XSR 900 conversion
Yard built to rebuild
Yamaha has been accelerating the Yard Builts since 2013, even if the flood of conversions has lessened a bit recently. All the more violent then what such a single measure comes. The latest yard built is an XSR 900 from Bottpower with a carbon lining that can be retrofitted for everyone.

“Bott” is an acronym for “Battle of the Twins”, is to pay homage to the well-known racing series and also to the regular use of large-volume twins from Bottpower at the great Pikes Peak race in the USA. It has two cylinders XSR 900 also, even one more and David von Bottpower from Valencia, Spain, appreciates the torque and the stiff frame of the Yamaha very much, which is why he chooses an XSR 900 from Yamaha for this conversion.
Inspired by his victorious Pikes Peak racers, mostly based on the Buell XB series, he builds the XSR 900 a completely new body made of carbon as part of Yard-Built-2020, calls the kit XR9 and sells it in small series. Anyone who thinks short all ETFs should also sit briefly: Including shipping to Germany, 19 percent VAT, painting, license plate holder and front fender, just under 8,700 euros have to be transferred to Spain. Uffdada, after all, the kit can also be mounted on the MT-09 up to model year 2017. Those who can do without painting for the time being will save 1,200 euros initially.
Almost everything new in carbon
But some carbon fiber is also supplied for the carbon. A new tank with the fierce air snorkels, the ultra-short rump, the chic front fender, the radiator covers with the headlights, the lamp mask with the LED daytime running lights and the license plate holder. The supplied, pre-assembled cabling of the new lighting system at the front and rear as well as all the necessary holders made of powder-coated or anodized metal are also useful.

Costs for the complete kit, including painting and shipping to Germany, a good 8,700 euros, gross.
Dealer support, conversion time and guarantee
Bottpower states that the comprehensive kit can be assembled in roughly eight hours, even for inexperienced screwdrivers. From our own experience, we generally leave this uncommented. However, the XR9-Set can also be ordered and assembled from any Yamaha dealer who can do the conversion for an additional charge. However, the buyer remains seated on the original parts – and there are a lot of them.

Noble carbon is actually always possible. Unfortunately there is no indication of how much lighter the Yamaha will be.
Theoretically, the Bottpower carbon jewelry is also street legal, as the light sources are CE approved. In the case of parts that are partly relevant for approval, such as the screwed hump or the new tank, the TuV could raise an objection. Anyone who has the euro easy can look forward to a production time of eight weeks plus delivery, but there is also a two-year guarantee. A weight saving is unfortunately not given.

Road legal in Germany questionable for several reasons. Firstly, the rump is screwed on, secondly, the tank must have an exhaust system since Euro4 and thirdly, the light test at the TuV could confirm that there is a need for improvement.
Conclusion
Finally, in Bottpower, Yamaha seems to have found a yard-built partner who can fully implement the long-cherished goal of buying add-on parts. The fact that this is unfortunately an acidic small series made of carbon is not conducive to deep market penetration. But the XR9 already makes you want to sound out the used prices of the Yamaha XSR 900 or MT-09.
