The Danish customizing duo Wrenchmonkees are taking on the Yamaha XSR 900 after the SR 400 and XJR 1300: It’s called Monkeebeast – and optically has as much in common with the base as its name.

W.renchmonkees, that’s Per Nielsen and Nicholas Bech. Per, the technician and hobbyist, Nicholas, the photographer and artist. The Wrenchmonkees founded Per 2006. Background: The taxation of new vehicles in Denmark is extremely high, at least 105 percent are due when buying, but depending on the price, the buyer is quickly at 180 percent taxation. This is called the luxury tax. But since motorcycling shouldn’t be a luxury, Per Nielsen devoted himself to the maintenance, optimization and embellishment of motorcycles from an early age.

Accordingly, Yamaha is at the right place with the Wrenchmonkees when it comes to giving the Yamaha XSR 900 a completely different coat of paint – without cutting and welding work on the frame, so that the conversion can also be carried out by XSR 900 owners who are not so tinker-savvy can. Selected parts specially developed for the Monkeebeast can soon be ordered directly from the Wrenchmonkees.

The fact that the Yamaha XSR 900 looks more like an all-terrain bike than a road machine after the Wrenchmonkee cure can be traced back to the Borrani 17-inch wheels with black rims, 9-mm stainless steel spokes and black hubs. Continental TKC are raised. At the rear, the Monkeebeast is equipped with K-Tech shock absorbers, Gilles Tooling chain tensioners and a TRW rear brake disc including a steel-flex brake line.

On the Monkeebeast, the rider sits differently than on the basic XSR 900, higher up and more on the bike than integrated. This is ensured by a bench made by the Wrenchmonkees, the modified Gilles Tooling footrest system with enduro notches, the Magura handlebar and handlebar grips from Biltwell. At the front, the brake system was pimped by a Nissin radial brake pump and steel braided brake lines.

Further modifications: push buttons from Motogadget, headlights in MT-03 style, LED taillights, powerful exhaust from SC Project on the modified MT-09 manifold as well as powder-coated aluminum fenders, aluminum engine guards and tank covers.
