#DutchWSBK: statements from the 2nd round
Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki n ° 1), 1st
“It was an amazing racing weekend. I was particularly happy with the Superpole yesterday because the lap I did was possibly the best lap I have ever done on a motorcycle. really proud of that even though winning both races was very nice of course. Today the race was in two stages. In the first half I attacked until I got a warning. So I handled the second half, tried to be careful and bring the bike back. I had a little left at the end, but the biggest problem was the wind today. I was digging there gap but I glided huge forward into turn 11 at the halfway point my foot came off the footrest so decided to save myself for the final laps after that . At the end of the race I suffered a big jerk coming out of the same turn, so I tried to be smart on the last lap and protect myself on the last turn. The jector was probably not the fastest, but it covered any attack on the inside and allowed me to cross the line in the lead ".
Tom Sykes (Kawasaki n ° 66), 2nd
“It was a very close final. I have to thank the public, my fans and the whole team for being understanding about my physical condition. Yesterday we had an acceptable race, but today we didn’t We never stopped looking for the ideal setting, until 30 minutes before the start of the race: Marcel and I continued to discuss how to make the bike easier to ride. Physically, I was clearly not entirely comfortable with the bike setup yesterday, but today I felt we had a set that could win. I just didn’t have the right bike in the right place at the right time, and I didn’t not won because of it. I tried and I’m obviously disappointed that I didn’t win. But considering where I was at the start of the week (in the hospital trying to sort out his stomach ache, Editor’s note), if someone had promised me two second places in Assen, I would never have believed it ".
Chaz Davies (Ducati n ° 7), 3rd
“I enjoyed the comeback in the peloton, but honestly it wasn’t easy and we had a tough race today. We just didn’t have the ideal feeling we had in the first run. and this morning in the warm-up. We lacked grip at the front and we ran a little on eggshells during the last ten laps. We have to find out why: it is a problem either of settings or of strong winds Anyway, it was important not to crash and score points, because I realized early enough that third place was the best we can do today. Yet our goal remains to win whenever possible. We hope we get another chance at Imola, a special place for me and for Ducati "
Michael van der Mark (Yamaha n ° 60), 4th
“I’m pretty happy! I did what I could and was happy with my race pace. Every time I passed a driver, I stayed in front. I was pulling up on Chaz Davies when I pulled over. had two scares at one of the fastest parts of the track. This is one of my highlights on this circuit, I knew I could save a lot of time there but the wind has changed in the meantime and the bike was maybe a little too far to the rear so the front was floating in the air. I had a big jerk so decided to do my own race because I had a good lead on the driver behind me. And honestly, because of the crash yesterday, I had a really bad arm in the last four or five laps. The doctors did a great job, they gave me painkillers. that allowed me to run. And if you had told me before the race that I could finish in fourth place, I would have gladly taken it! "
Alex Lowes (Yamaha No.22), 5th
“Honestly after Friday and yesterday we needed a good result today. I haven’t been as consistent as I wanted in previous seasons, and that’s something I’ve tried to do. ‘improve this year. I’ve always been fast, I just lacked consistency. Yesterday’s race was hard for me to digest as I really don’t know what I did wrong. I felt capable of doing it. reach the Top 6. Today, starting from 15th place, I just wanted to do a good job. We made some changes on the bike: I’m still not fully satisfied with the set-up, and without my mistakes on Friday (two falls, Editor’s note …), we could have improved them for today. However, finishing fifth starting 15th on the grid is fantastic. It just rewards all the hard work the team has done this weekend, quite simply. I can’t wait to start Imola, by a calmer Friday I hope, which should help us er to obtain a better result ".
Leon Camier (MV Agusta n ° 2), 6th
"I’m really happy, honestly. There was too much traffic at the start, but I managed to do some really good overtaking and also kept a very good pace. I had a grip problem at the end of the day. race and lost a bit of time, but it was a very good race overall. A big thank you to all my team – they did a great job today ".
Jordi Torres (BMW n ° 81), 7th
"I struggled at first with the new tires, but after four or five laps I started to gain confidence, and I managed to overtake several riders and make a good comeback. Thanks to my fairly rhythm. strong until the end, I was able to overtake Laverty just before the line, to finish seventh. It’s not bad but I hope I can do more in Imola, which is the first of the home races for the team ".
Eugene Laverty (Aprilia n ° 50), 8th
“The new reverse grid rules were useful to us today as it gave us the opportunity to show how fast we are in the first laps of a race. I felt very comfortable on the bike , I really let go and had a good fight with Fores and the Kawasaki in the lead. The problem arose after about 10 laps: the front tire again lost in grip and in performance, I started to go down in the standings . My pace was constant, but we could have finished higher for sure. This weekend confirmed the areas in which we need to improve. We were really strong in some sections, but the tire wear took us away. caused damage in others. It’s good for Aprilia to see that we are strong in the early laps. We’ll see what Imola brings us in two weeks. ".
Nicky Hayden (Honda # 69), 9th
"Today‘s race went a lot better. I got off to a good start, fought with other drivers and felt like I was having one of my best races ever. the year. We fought against the wind which was quite strong today and certainly didn’t help us. We have to work on the front end to improve the tire life for the second part of the race. What penalized us the most, however, was all the driving time wasted, especially on Friday (clutch and engine brake problems, note). I want to thank the guys because they worked hard and didn’t are never decentralized, despite a difficult weekend "
Marco Melandri (Ducati n ° 33), retirement
"The conditions were tough today, the wind was really strong. Because of that, I made a mistake on turn 11 on lap six and lost four places. But, I was coming back strong. C It’s a shame to have crashed because I think I could have fought with Van den Mark. Our bike was more competitive than in the first round, even if it was still wobbling a lot. Unfortunately I always had this problem on this track, maybe because I’m lighter than most riders and can’t load the rear properly on that type of tarmac. We are now on our way going to Imola, a track that I really enjoy riding on , where I am convinced that we will forget our worries and have two strong races ".
