Third in qualifying in Brno, Jules Cluzel took charge of the Supersport race from the start, but never managed to get rid of new championship leader Sandro Cortese… Maintained under pressure during the 16 laps of this 7th round of 2018, our incredible Julo did not crack. Hat !

Having taken the lead in the World Supersport Championship thanks to his remarkable victory at Donington Park, Sandro Cortese (Yamaha n ° 11) signed his third Superpole of the season yesterday afternoon in Brno … His first season in World Supersport as a reminder !

The previous leader of the provisional, Randy Krummenacher (Yam n ° 21) and our top driver Jules Cluzel (Yam n ° 16) set up their own private R6s in the front row. Past not far from the treble (victory at Assen then at Imola, 2nd at Donington Park), our "Coq Supersportif" runs, like Cortese, after a third success.

Reigning world champion Lucas Mahias qualified in the middle of second place. Yamaha factory rider # 144 has not been on the podium since race two at Buriram. Very consistent, he is however only 12 points behind in the championship. But to keep his crown, Lucas must win again…

Departure : Cluzel got off to a good start and took the lead in the long and fast curve n ° 1. He is followed, unsurprisingly, by Krummenacher, Cortese and De Rosa who resists the threatening Caricasulo. Mahias remained behind but moved away from the rest of the peloton at the end of the first lap. Morais, Lahti and Smith complete the Top 10.

Cluzel beat time ahead of Cortese and Krummenacher. The Swiss hesitates to overtake the German … and is finally passed in front by the Italian and his F3! Surprised by this attack, "Krummenator" widens in the sequence of following turns and lets Mahias pass! Caricasulo falls on turn 8 and retires.

Author of the best time in the second loop, our champion Lucas remains in the wake of Raffaele who tries to pick up the leading duo: Jules is still leading, but Sandro remains quietly in his rear wheel. Fifth, Krummenacher is relegated to a few lengths of Mahias.

Jules Cluzel’s teammate (Gradinger) and Kenan Sofuoglu’s replacement (Morais) are just a second behind Krummenacher but do not turn fast enough to hope to climb back to fifth place. West, Smith and Lahti complete the Top 10 at the end of the 4th round.

The race was then animated by a flamboyant passage of arms between Cluzel and Cortese: the n ° 11 shifts under the braking of turn n ° 12 and passes in front of the Frenchman on the climb towards the pits. Our n ° 16 has to do it twice to regain control of the race: a first unsuccessful attempt in the last big pif-paf of the 4th lap, a second – the good one – on the first braking of the 5th lap…

Cortese buries the hatchet and again is content to follow Cluzel. De Rosa is only a few lengths away from the two leading R6s. The factory F3 is a small second ahead of the official R6 n ° 144. A second and a half further on is the private R6 n ° 21.

Morais fell and abandoned the race … At the same time he "abandoned" Gradinger, in whom he was competing for a fine 6th place. Smith, West and Lahti continue to fight for seventh place. Watercress climbs to 10th position. Soomer, Okubo and Hartog fight for 11th place. Irwin and Canducci are in the points.

Halfway through the race, the leading trio remained grouped together and moved away from the world champion: Mahias gave up about half a second in the lap to his opponents. The return to the podium will still not be for today … Placed two short seconds behind Lucas, Randy Krummenacher turns in the same rhythm as his target.

In the lead since the red lights went out, our international "Julo" has gone through the laps without making the slightest mistake. But the R6 n ° 16 seems to move a little more than the n ° 11 which does not leave it of a Pirelli! From the 11th lap, the F3 n ° 3 struggles to keep pace … Similarly, Mahias slows down and is caught by Krummenacher.

On several occasions, Cortese pretends to shift in some "left-right" characteristic of the Czech track. But the German does not trigger an attack: there are still five laps to go and flying in the feathers of the "Fast chicken" too early could be counterproductive … Do not we say that it is the legs in the dung that the French rooster is the most combative? Caution, therefore.

As Cluzel and Cortese continued their peaceful parade, De Rosa isolated himself in third position: factory rider MV Agusta was nearly three seconds behind Cluzel and Cortese, and four seconds ahead of another Yamaha duo of Mahias and Krummenacher !

The last lap finally arrives … Cluzel keeps the advantage in the first curve but Cortese attacks from turn n ° 4. Julo resists on the outside and blocks Sandro on the next turn; the two R6s touch! Focused on their battle, the pilots lose their trajectories in the slow section of the "stadium"…

Our n ° 16 launches into the last ultra-fast third of the circuit ahead of his opponent. Maintained under pressure throughout the race by a Cortese who was visibly more comfortable on his machine in the winding portions, our compatriot achieved a faultless end of the course..

Sandro Cortese couldn’t try anything during the final ascent to the finish line and lost to an incredibly solid Jules Cluzel! Raffaele de Rosa goes under the checkered flag in third position, his third in a row! Lucas Mahias finished in a frustrating fourth place, just ahead of Randy Krummenacher.

The two very strong men of this mid-season take advantage of this Czech event to distance Krummenacher and Mahias in the championship. With his five consecutive podiums (including three victories!), Cluzel now has 120 points, only two less than Cortese … Strongly Misano, in one month !
