2016 KTM RC 390

In 2016, the KTM RC 390 acquires a very special status: it is now the most powerful sports car in the KTM range. Funny and ubiquitous situation due to the disappearance of the catalog of the 1190 RC8-R.
The RC 390 benefits from a slight evolution, mainly technical. The line hardly changes, the RC clearly distinguishing itself from the segment by an offset face and its perfusing Katoche spirit. Where the RC 390 II identifies with the indentation of its wheels. Euro4 standards have decided in the basement. The exhaust under the engine is no longer and becomes a conventional model, in aluminum, migrating to the side of the rear wheel.
Suddenly, as there is no longer any need to hide the silencer, the fairing shoe is reduced to its simplest expression..

Although the RC 390 is aimed especially at budding sportsmen and does not fear being overwhelmed by the power (44 horses), it does not hesitate to improve technologically and electronically. The engine receives the reinforcement of an anti-dribble clutch, very useful during wild decelerations, and a Ride-by-Wire accelerator. The braking, still with disconnectable ABS, gains in power with a larger disc of 20 mm or 320 mm now. The brake and clutch levers are now adjustable. And also, the special passenger seat gains in comfort with more foam.

Without changing the situation, the RC 390 strengthens itself in a segment where contenders are not legion but deserve attention. Who are they ? Yamaha R3, Kawasaki Ninja 300 R, Benelli Tornado 302 and this KTM. Besides its not lazy mono, one of the strengths of the machine is the weight. With 147 kilos, this RC promises to be taken like a bird between the squirrels. The chassis will follow. The differences with that of the Duke 390 occur at the level of the geometry of the rigid trellis frame, reworked for better dynamism. The angle of inclination of the steering column and the shortening of the caster and the wheelbase contribute to the responsiveness of the RC models, much more comfortable on the circuit. Compared to the roadster suspensions, the travel has been reduced and the settings are more incisive. The 43 mm WP inverted fork tubes have the same diameter as those of the ex Superbike 1190 RC8-R.
A good way for A2s to discover the sport and see the famous “Ready to race”.
