24 Heures Motos - Update at 2am: rain, falls and abandonment! -

In the stands, the public is slowly starting to fall asleep to the sound of racing cars which have been riding for nearly twelve hours now! In the middle of the night, the pilots deal with driving rain, the source of many upheavals on the Bugatti track.

Shortly after 11:00 p.m., the n ° 55 Honda takes to the track for the umpteenth time: it seems that some people eat more black bread than others … In the process, the Suzuki n ° 50 of Motors Events s’ stops following a fall. It is now the # 57 Yamaha of the LTG 57 Zone Rouge – then 11th in the race – which takes third place in the Superstock standings.

At midnight, the Kawasaki n ° 11 climbs slowly and is now in 6th position. Continuing his improbable recovery, Matthieu Lagrive, riding the No. 111 Honda, was only four laps away from the No. 1 SERT Suzuki. Quick and consistent, this one is two laps behind the lead bike, the # 7 Yamaha of the Austrian YART team at the gates of its 300th race lap. !

Very fast also, Josep Monge at the controls of the n ° 63 Honda of the Power Research Team has kindly returned to 17th place: a pity that the Bibendum team has suffered so many misadventures, mercilessly limiting the potential of this very recent team..

However, the men at Michelin have a smile: the leading Yamaha is equipped with Clermont envelopes and continues to prove their value over the laps, followed by the Honda – also in Michelin! – hired by the French importer.

Disappointed, the Pirelli clan accuses the blow: "With the rapid abandonment of the Yamaha from GMT 94 and the setbacks suffered by the Honda National Motos, we must postpone our ambitions of victory at the Bol d’Or", blows us a bit annoyed, Matthieu Brinon from Pirelli France.

During this time, the Kawasaki n ° 11 of the GSR goes up slowly and here at 00:25, Kenny Foray manages to bring back the powerful ZX-10R to the 5th position! Once again – too many? – the Honda n ° 63 of the Michelin PRT stops in the pits, apparently the victim of a new technical problem: a light smoke escaping from the machine suggests an engine overheating…

At 00:40, Suzuki n ° 1 fell into the hands of Barry Veneman who got up quickly but returned to the boxes. A mishap which allows the Honda n ° 111 to pass in second position at 00:47! The SERT Suzuki leaves its stand with Guillaume Dietrich on the handlebars at 00:52.

The double French Superbike champion is two laps behind the Honda n ° 111, itself five laps from the leader’s machine, the YART Yamaha n ° 7 then led by Gwen Giabbani.

Another blow for the # 110 Suzuki of AM Moto Racing which crashed at 12:52 a.m. and immediately set off again. At 00:55, the Honda n ° 55 – decidedly not very varnished – also makes a mistake.

The rain is well established and we have a feeling that a lot will still happen tonight on the Sarthois circuit! So much the better: the entire Site team still has the eye – almost – lively and the verve intact to accompany you until 3 p.m. on Sunday !

Meanwhile, the No. 176 Yamaha X-Trem Bike crashed at the start of the pit straight, then it was the turn of the No. 8 Kawasaki from Team Bolliger which was in sixteenth position…

The pouring rain is really wreaking havoc in the ranks and the Yamaha of Team Endurance 33, driven at the time by Bastien Mackels, suffers at 1:20. Sad news for the AM Moto Racing Competition team and that of the Yamaha n ° 119 of the Slider Endurance: the two teams announce, death in the soul, their final withdrawal from the Manceau clock tower.

The Yamaha n ° 33 valiantly took to the track at 1:37 am in 23rd position. A few minutes later, it was the turn of the astonishing crew of the Metiss n ° 45 to feel the bitumen: a broken wheel preventing them from regaining their stand, this bitza equipped with a single arm at the front and a GSX-R engine is unfortunately forced to abandon.

As usual, the night does not give any gifts to the participants of the legendary Endurance event and we already count ten withdrawals shortly before two in the morning … In full effort, a problem with the accelerator cable is suddenly spotted on Honda n ° 111, while Sebastien Charpentier was about to hand over the controls of the CBR to his teammate Steve Plater !

In the end, the loss of time was minimal for the Englishman, who returned to second place. The incident will not cause him to lose much in his comeback on the leader, the No. 7 Yamaha from YART, who continues to prance in the lead at two in the morning. Stay tuned until our next report !
