ADAC Innovative protection system: the airbag vest for bikers being tested

Head and chest injuries are what kill most motorcyclists in fatal crashes.

For the head there is the helmet. An innovative, very expensive airbag system protects the chest. But does it work at all? The ADAC tested it.

Spring is coming and with it the start of the motorcycle season. And that unfortunately also means: there will be serious accidents again. Helmets and protective clothing offer bikers only limited protection. Developing even more effective protection systems for motorcyclists is extremely complicated. Unlike in a car, the movements of the driver in a motorcycle crash are difficult to calculate in advance. "Protective systems directly on the motorcyclist's body are therefore the best way to prevent or at least reduce the most serious and fatal injuries," believes the ADAC. The club has now tested two so-called airbag vests in crash behavior.
