Not reasonable … but awfully good !
200 hp for 472 kg: these Quebeckers are crazy! Daniel Campagna and his team succeeded in approving in our country, oh how fussy, a real ORNI (Unidentified Rolling Object): the T-Rex. Special Christmas test, between two snowfalls !
Circuit proof
After an hour’s drive in the cold and with a shaving sun in full swing, we arrive at the Circuit Beltoise enclosure. We will finally be able to try to tease the 200 hp. We also faithfully find the engine sensations felt on the handlebars of the ZZR 1400 (read our).
The 4-cylinder is flexible and accommodating – even soft! – under 5,000 rpm. Afterwards, he wakes up and rushes with force towards the red zone located at 11,000 laps in a very sporty sound. This is because on board the T-Rex, the engine is positioned just behind the pilot’s head.
We are therefore in the front row to savor the vocalizations of the Kawa block, the whistles of the admission as well as the gear changes but a little less the howl of the exhausts.
Humility !
Even raising the tone on the track, the tires are struggling to heat up and the T-Rex continues to slide. This does not allow us to push the reports to the limit and get the quintessence of the car. Nevertheless, even if it is tinged with apprehension and mistrust, the pleasure is there !
The feeling of driving such an exceptional vehicle flatters as much as it reduces a little humility in the face of such power. In optimal conditions and in expert hands, the T-Rex is capable of wonders.
Geometry question
It swallows the 0 to 100 km / h in 3.9 seconds and allows speeds of passage in curves that are simply mind-blowing. The car takes almost no roll in the turns.
The T-Rex can take more than 1.5g in lateral acceleration, where a very sporty car supports barely 1g before stalling. This is due to the optimal geometry of Daniel Campagna’s creation. Indeed, the very low center of gravity corresponds perfectly to the center of the triangle formed by the 3 wheels.
The main on-board masses, which are the engine and the passengers, are therefore ideally placed. Given the low weight of the machine, the braking provided by three ventilated discs is perfectly up to the performance. He knows how to be gentle and perfectly controllable on the road but also powerful and very biting on the circuit..
