200 hp for 472 kg: these Quebeckers are crazy! Daniel Campagna and his team succeeded in approving in our country, oh how fussy, a real ORNI (Unidentified Rolling Object): the T-Rex. Special Christmas test, between two snowfalls !

Zero grip

We make a detour to a car wash to make the T-Rex sparkle for photos. Uncommon detail, we remove the two seats in a jiffy so as not to get them wet. Everything freezes instantly: the brake pads on the discs, the steering wheel … it’s really cold !

It is time to leave from the depths of 95 to join the Beltoise Circuit which opens its doors to us at lunchtime. A little push on the starter and the Kawa 4-cylinder snorts without problem.

The tiny gear lever controls the 6-speed sequential gearbox, with, as on the ZZR, neutral between 1st and 2nd. The tiny lever to engage the step is in turn glued to the left thigh of the pilot.

First slide … involuntary !

A small highway junction approached at very reasonable speed and already the rear stalls but smoothly. I relieve the throttle a little and the machine is back in line to enter the fast lane. The tires are cold and will have a hard time heating up elsewhere than on the track … so be careful !

It feels weird to squeeze into the flow of trucks in such a low-level car. Luckily ours is orange and you can see it! The rearview is not extraordinary: the pilot does not have a central rear view and has to rely on the one on the right too magnifying and the one on the left, far away and not easy to adjust.

Beware of dimensions

If the T-Rex is extremely compact at 1.06 m high and 3.50 m long, it is also very wide. For perfect road holding, its front axle is close to 2 meters: 1981 mm wide to be exact. It is enormous ! Think about it, that’s 8cm longer than a Lamborghini Gallardo and 27cm longer than a Renault Clio !

When you are used to motorcycles or small cars, you have to be really vigilant in traffic and when moving around town. Fortunately, although not assisted and despite the small steering wheel, the steering is as precise as it is light.
